I always imagined Hookland was landlocked. Though maybe it still is, despite the haunted lighthouses.

The Bluesky-user/podcast-listener overlap must surely be high, so dropping this link here. The developer was discussing it over on Reddit. It lists books mentioned in podcasts. I asked about @bunkerpod.bsky.social as I'm always scribbling down books. They added it and I am impressed! podshelf.io

Viewing figures pretty amazing for the first ep, but surely can only go up if the twist this year is that it's also channeling Squid Game

In the Renaissance people theorized, since the Aeneid is great, if you wrote poems made only of words & phrases from the Aeneid rearranged they should be great too, since a great source regurgitated should yield greatness. They produced NOTHING we still read. Thinking about that a lot lately.

Holy shit, we're actually getting there. "UCLA researchers develop low-cost blood test to detect multiple cancers and other diseases from a single sample [—] In tests, MethylScan detected about 63% of cancers across all stages and roughly 55% of early-stage cancers." (from April) #ShareGoodNewsToo

Yes, this final and yesterday's England/France match were a lot of fun to watch but this remains so important. Almost everyone has caved to Infantino's continued presidency, but he is a corrupt little man who does not treat all nations equally.

I never really understand the point of these interviews in the US. To the foreign eye it seems like they spend ages showing the person is the worst incompetent POS then just go 'but I am sure they will do better in future' and appoint them anyway

Yes,this is so important. We must maintain a basic standard of evidence, and fight to remind ourselves and others why this is an important journalistic, scientific, academic and reader baseline. I do think we need to find a way of dealing with this being slow and unable to fill a vacuum.

Fantastic game, I watched in mexico city where most people were behind you (I'm from UK so cheering for England I'm afraid!). They even had some Norwegians up on stage at half time doing the row! Thought your team were brilliant, sad that they went out as much as I'm happy england are going through.

I have loved every minute of being in mexico for the world cup, apart from the ads constantly. Especially at the end of the game - I like to see people celebrating, mourning, shaking hands, how the teams interact... here's it's final whistle the straight into the ads which really ruins the vibe.

I have been watching too much world cup. Stopped scrolling because I thought this was an updated QF bracket after the Argentina/Egypt match. It's a stool sample chart.

It seems like a massive overreaction to your first big public scandal. He wants to be PM and he enjoys a grift - there will be other times he gets caught with his fingers in the till. Is he going to throw all his toys out of the pram every single time?

Hang on, I did not realise the US think Belgium are the underdog in this scenario. Really guys? Norway are a strong team, but their roadmap cannot be 'wait for England to do some really dumb things'.

I like this piece, it puts into words what I've been worrying about - I like the vibes, but what's the actual plan/payoffs to making it happen? And your note about UK not being able to withstand much more grinding dysfunction. He needs to do well, this can't just be another story of one man's ego.

I very much feel your pain having gone through this exact process many a time. Mary Ward has some cheaper drawing courses. Or tbh I just go to local life drawing which is affordable, though I get that there's something appealing about a course and being taught a new thing.

I don't understand the point of arguments like this. Obviously there are reasons he is the way he is. Doing some pop psychoanalysis about it still doesn't make him capable of doing politics or political communication in the 2020s.

Absolutely awful from Springer Nature. People should be aware that they definitely should not under any circumstances look up the many many pirate sites which exist to enable them to bypass paying big academic publishers to download academic work. Do not Google this/go to reddit to find out more.
