📢 New paper out in Scientific Reports! We found links b/t brain activity & emotional outcomes in women with chronic postsurgical pain. 🧠 More SMC activation → more anxiety/depression 🧠 More PFC activation → lower chronic stress (via hair cortisol) No moderation by pain intensity. bit.ly/3ZichEA

Today, I had the honor of participating in this amazing panel to talk about organ donation, particularly those barriers that affect the Hispanic community. It was a privilege to listen to my co-panelists share their stories about their journeys with organ donation

"The abrupt termination of critical USAID-funded clinical trials, with insufficient time to safeguard the welfare of people who are participating, is profoundly unethical and utterly inexcusable" www.statnews.com/2025/02/16/u... via @statnews.com

The abrupt end of USAID-funded clinical trials is profoundly unethical
USAID's stop-work order threatens to undo decades of progress in medical research ethics and cause harm to clinical trial participants.

I dug a grave and buried my Imposter Syndrome. The tombstone reads: Here lies a bunch of patriarchal nonsense designed to make me think I can't. I did. Honestly, I will not hold back anymore. No regrets.

I truly can’t believe this is the country I’m living in. I feel like I am in an alternate universe. I am a proud woman in STEM & #science. I have endured misogyny & sacrificed a lot to be where I am & won’t be stopped. #WomeninSTEM #WomeninScience

External studies have shown: -NIH funding directly or indirectly supported the development of ALL new treatments that were FDA approved between 2010-2020 -the return on NIH investment is estimated at 25-40% annually given the improvement in productivity from a healthier workforce Facts matter.

Don’t just say DEI as if it’s a bad word. Spell it out. Say diversity, which is the lifeblood of American society & culture & innovation. Say equity, which a just society should pursue. Say inclusion, because decent people believe in increasing belonging, not isolating people who are different.

Well I guess this will be my 1st Bluesky post as @fperrywilson.bsky.social perfectly sums up the issue relating to NIH spending. I have dedicated my career to science & I’m just seeing it all slip away. Investing in NIH is crucial for our public health, society, the economy, & future generations.
