🎃 #FantasyIndiesSpooktober 🎃 Day 8: Phobias A few of those in the WIP fear things that may lurk among the trees as you leave the coast and travel inland. Others fear for their futures, seeing no way around present struggles.

🎃 #FantasyIndiesSpooktober 🎃 Day 7: POV and Tense preferences I enjoy 3rd person limited because it has the distance of omniscient and the intimacy of first person. That said, I like seeing what can be done with all POVs and tenses. Omniscient can play with things characters hide from each other.

🎃 #FantasyIndiesSpooktober 🎃 Day 6: WIP villains There aren't any notable villains in my WIP, but there are a few horrible characters in the duology. They range from morally grey to complete 🗑️🔥.

He was absolutely a theatre kid and debater! Prismer knows what she likes.

Oh, yes! I can see Oklas as a chess player (not necessarily an excellent one, but he'd have fun). Prismer could probably pick it up too, though she is a bit of a perfectionist and games may stress her out. However she would have the patience to learn an instrument.

I really could see Prismer on the harp (though it may take her a while to learn). She has an ear for music. Oklas likes trying his hand at everything, so painting could certainly be one of those things.

If [these characters] could master a hobby in one day, what would it be? #LitHodgepodge 3 We have Prismer on the left and Oklas on the right, so take your pick 🤗
Artwork of 2 figures in profile. The left figure, Prismer she/her, is wearing a mask and headscarf. Her skin is pale green but mostly covered. The figure on the right, Oklas he/him, is in a waistcoat. He has blue-grey skin (both are humanoid but not human).

It was good to see Pope Leo talking up human artistry today. I bet many of those crying for the recognition of AI's "humanity" don't even recognise the human dignity of entire groups of actual people.

From a Jewish lady, thank you, Mr Pope 💙
In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

Two years ago today, I released Hannah and Gregory, my self-pub debut! It started life as just 1 of 13 stories in an indie horror anthology. The seasonal anthology is no longer in print, so I expanded my story and tuned it up, and gave it a second life. Reviews have been kind.

POVs are all about personality. The things a character notices or doesn't notice. The way they think about other characters. An extravert is often a good person to follow if you want to introduce an ensemble cast. Introverts get attached to just one or two people at a time.

#FantasyIndiesSeptember Day 29: Introvert or extravert characters Of all the characters in my novella WIP, I'd say Merethe leans towards extravert. She's not the only POV, but I'm not ready to introduce all the others just yet. I have quite a few ambiverts this time around.

It's time to reintroduce The Chronicles of Nerezia as a whole <3 With FRAGMENTED releasing on October 9 and concluding Disc One, I thought we could go back to some basics. Always feels weird to try to encompass so much in so little words 💚 DISCOUNTED ON ITCH: itch.io/s/200863/fra...
The Chronicles of Nerezia. Displays nine covers in a row that form a continuous canva with text below.
An ever-failing apprentice, an anxious artificer lizard, and an amnesiac elf with strange powers travel within a sentient self-propelling wagon, seeking the forest haunting the elf’s dreams. In their quest for answers, they will need to traverse a world haunted by Fragments, dangerous shards that can possess travellers--and will slowly unravel the mystery behind those, too.

#FantasyIndiesSeptember Day 25: Free Friday My duology has received some special reviews these past few months. Here are a few excerpts, though I really want to share something from all of them eventually.
The two POV characters are winsome and understandable. The politics are fascinating. And the writing is confident and polished. —Pete AldinIt isn't often I am left so speechless reading a book that I lose control of my two mental languages. Like the border region of my mind that knows which language to prioritize for a given situation, the exciting and criminally underrated finale of the Apidecca duology explores the innermost feelings of knyadkind and the relationship forged between the boastful Oklas and the subdued Prismer. —Nancy FosterLansdell has a distinct authorial voice that perfectly suits the story. The prose is clear, articulate and sparing, allowing the reader to appreciate the unique features of Knyadrea’s naming systems. The book has heart, and is concerned for the welfare of others, but emotion travels only within the repressed spaces given to its main characters. We connect with these characters, yet characters struggle to connect with one another. —Sarah Balstrup.

#FantasyIndiesSeptember Day 21: Power-hungry character (in published books rather than WIP) I'm going with Aurel II. He doesn't need to climb higher, he has all the power over people he could want. But it also costs him peace, so its no fun if he doesn't use it to hurt others.
