I’m afraid to watch Digger because it might put me in the uncomfortable position of holding a contra-majority opinion on it à la Skinamarink

Experimental post: The Duality of Whacka In the Switch version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Whacka can finally be fought, and has a suspiciously specific 108 HP. The game both offers a ridiculously simplistic explanation for this as well as a complex one steeped in Dharmic symbolism.
In Paper Mario, the original version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and Super Paper Mario, Whacka was just a harmless whack-a-mole creature that could be abused to get Whacka Bumps, extremely valuable healing items. After being hit enough times, the Whacka goes extinct, teaching the players the consequences of their actions. However, in the Switch version of Paper Mario: TTYD, he instead moves to the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials and becomes an optional superboss with 108 HP.
He is fought at the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials and has to be hit 8 times in order for the fight to activate.
but also
The number 108 is considered sacred by the Dharmic religions, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.
Whacka symbolizes karma for killing him in past games
ring the bell 108 times, per Japanese tradition? The ringing of the bell represents the 108 bonno-defilements of man..
Buddhism holds the view that there are precisely 108 temptations on the path to Nirvana.
Therefore, in order to reach Nirvana, every Buddhist must resist 108 earthly temptations.
With a combination of any of the elements of the above four factors, there are 108 ways with which the karmas can be attracted to the soul.
the earthly temptation to get those Whacka Bumps
There are 108 qualities of praiseworthy souls
Some people think that the human spirit travels through 108 stages, while others believe that enlightenment is attainable with just 108 breaths each day while in Intense meditation,
108 beads to awaken your inner light
Meditators count mantra repetitions with mala beads of 108, (100 counted for self, 8 for mistakes and for those who have not the opportunity to meditate in mantra)
108 breaths to return to your truth
108 mantras to dissolve ego into dever
108 steps from the self to the soul
The Sacred Meaning of 108 Temple Steps
the journey to Whacka is a journey of enlightenment

furries are kind of an example of what mainstream titles miss out on by having realistic people for protagonists because we are all instantly recognizable mascots with visages that people can grow quite fond of and even draw fan art of just by lookin cute and stylistically pleasing.

When do we acknowledge that compensation is being drawn away from skills and funneled into ownership? Like do we all realize how poorly capitalism is designed as a societal structure? I can’t be the only one seeing this and being told I’m crazy for it

It's not hard. Both Yglesias moderates and Khanna leftists give MAGA politicians legitimacy because they want MAGA's base. Ossoff simply does not give a shit about the MAGA base, which allows him to speak with fierce clarity about MAGA politicians. He is willing to bet on an anti-MAGA majority.

It definitely feels like with a new generation entering the fandom, there’s a shift in the philosophical core of what furry means as both a community and a medium of self-expression. It’s interesting to see it deconstructed recently.

As someone for whom furry has always primarily been about the exploration of fantasy and imagination more so than community and personal expression, this movement has led me to question my biases, insecurities, and personal conceptions of the fandom as, well, a fandom.

Cay @caymanwent.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
The exploration of the fandom itself, rather than fursonas and anthro characters in general, feels pretty avant garde. “Post-furry” even.

Cay @caymanwent.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
The trend of artistically exploring furry from its real world expressions—fursuiting, room parties, the “human” element in general—is an interesting practice in a fandom that’s ostensibly about portraying the self as something other than human

My latest @newscientist.com cartoon
Panel 1: a large robot (composed of AI servers, network switches, storage arrays, and power distribution units) and a human are talking.

Professor "You don't want to destroy humanity do you, lLLM-A-9300x?"

Robot "Haha. What a silly question, Professor. I have no desires or feelings of my own whatsoever."

Professor (relieved)"Oh good."

Panel 2: they walk on. The robot continues "I am merely a tool of the company that created me. And that company, being composed of humans, will naturally have humanity's best interests at heart."

Panel 3: The professor is conspicuously quiet.
"Right?" says the Robot.
…
More silence

"Professor?"

Republican voters do not have any hope for the future, they just want revenge on a world they see as having failed them. So rather than vote for someone who actual policy, they’re taken in by fear of “immigrant criminals” and “transing our children” and other such horseshit. It’s pathetic really

Besides the bigotry and genocidal bent, this is one of the major things that pisses me off about republicans: they don’t actually have anything to offer to voters. So they run on fear and hate and othering, get into office, and immediately yank the copper out of the walls

So when I say dems hate marginalized groups it's not "oh they are evil for the sake of evil." No its neoliberalis. Social issues and disparity can only be resolved with policies that hinder capital. They hate us because neoliberalism values the market at the expense of the people.
