The implicit theory-of-change in this article is that we can accomplish all the work of averting the climate crisis without ever mentioning climate on the campaign trail. If you don’t buy the premise, then the argument is functionally identical to “the climate crisis will go away if we ignore it.”

LNG Canada has known there was an issue with its flaring equipment for over a year. While locals raised concerns about noise, smoke and emissions, until now, they didn’t have answers. The Narwhal reviewed more than 2,000 pages of documents for this story: thenarwhal.ca/lng-canada-f... #bcpoli

We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.

We actually aren't constrained into atrocious premises by thought exercises. Obstacles are a reason to fight, not an excuse to quit. Our friends and neighbors aren't distractions..

"Boggling to watch towns across western Canada evacuating again in the face of what will be yet another super heavy wildfire season as Premiers from these same provinces bang the table for more pipelines. Equally boggling is our media STILL failing to make the obvious connection for us in any way."

Liberals have been very concerned about mis- and disinformation in recent years, so when Mark Carney says carbon capture will allow for “decarbonized” oil, we should be clear that he’s engaging in active disinformation about climate change to please Danielle Smith and the Alberta oil industry.

"In Alberta or Saskatchewan, we live in a #PetroState. Canada, in and of itself is a Petro state, so you've gotta put a skeptical filter on when you read, listen to or watch stuff coming from within our borders. 4.4 million barrels a day at $60 a barrel buys a lot of influence & they're buying it."

This low water level situation sure seems like a good opportunity for a competent opposition party to bring up the harms climate change is doing and the failure of the current government to take it seriously.

carney is gaslighting canadians every time he suggests carbon capture is the solution to oil and gas emissions. in french he literally said we’d increase oil production but it was fine because of carbon capture. it’s pure climate denial.

It's one thing to say, politically, Carney is 'right' to abandon carbon pricing. It's quite another to see so-called 'progressive' politicians REPEAT CONSERVATIVE LIES about the policy. Fucking hell.

As someone who spends a lot time thinking about the values I want to teach my kid (besides PLEASE DON’T EAT DIRT), the thing I keep coming back to is this: I want him to believe that the strongest, bravest thing he can do is give a shit about other people—especially ones who aren’t like him at all.

Oh, look! Elon Musk has trained Grok3 to repeat the climate denial of The Breakthrough Institute & its ED Ted Nordhaus. Because of course the BTI would supply lukewarmer language for a red-pilled, Nazi, Trump-loving electric-vehicle magnate. Musk is, like, the BTI's political sweet spot.
5. Grok update includes climate denial Grok 3, the latest iteration of the artificial intelligence chatbot developed by Elon Musk's *AI, appears to have been trained to spew climate denial. Andrew Dessler, a climate scientist at Texas A&M University, posed the same question - "Is climate change an urgent threat?" — to the beta version of Grok 3 and to its predecessor Grok 2. Dessler posted screenshots of the two responses on Bluesky. Grok 2 responded, "Yes, climate change is widely regarded by scientists, governments, and international organizations as an urgent threat to the planet," and went on to provide evidence of climate change and its impacts. Grok 3, meanwhile, said that climate change was "a complex issue." While "the mainstream
scientific consensus...says it's a big deal," the chatbot said, "some argue the urgency is overhyped," and that climate
change is "more of a manageable shift we're overreacting to."This is the lukewarmer message par excellence: climate change is not a threat to human survival, nor even to the stability of civilization; rather it is a manageable problem for which a legitimate solution is to continue to use fossil energy indefinitely for ongoing development which, supposedly, allows for the "decoupling of human well-being from environmental impacts." Indeed, BTI founder Ted Nordhaus has said that the "agenda" to phase out fossil energy is "impossible," but no one should feel dismayed about this putative fact because climate change is simply "a chronic problem that human societies will need to manage" —as if global heating were a case of planetary diabetes, rather than a cancer that needs to be caught and cured early be- fore it metastasizes out of control.' Never mind that pre-eminent climate scientists such as Joëlle Gergis, a lead author of the IPCC's Sixth Assessment report, liken climate change to a cancer: "to use a medical analogy," Gergis has written, "if we choose to treat our cancer early enough we can stop its spread, but the longer we delay the more
limited our treatment options and the worse the damage becomes."

I have learned in recent years there are 10s of millions of Americans not only willing but eager to go watch a lynching from the comfort of a picnic blanket and the only thing that was holding them back was the social penalty; really makes you think about those who warn against social penalties.
