Did you know you only need a small brain to make silly little drawings?
4 panel comic:
Panel 1: pink blob guy on a table, pencil in their hands. Grey circle on a piece of paper and a glass of water on the table. They say “look here”
Panel 2: Proudly, they hold up the drawing of a grey blobby character on two stick legs up in the air. The pink blob says “I drew this!”
Panel 3: Satisfied they sit back down on the table. They now go “it’s not much, but..” The grey drawing looks a bit peeved because the drawer is calling it “not much”
Panel 4: But it’s okay, because now the pink blob is very pleased finally. He says “it came from my brain!” Holding the pencil up. The grey drawing blob is happy again, too. End well, all well!

I just reread through the archives and this story has a good flow and lore-building when read all together, but I also love that through the power of Webcomics we get to read through it as Magnolia makes it and pore over every page individually! It's such a gift and I am grateful!

So relieved to see that this ad for motion-sickness medication that caught my eye while channel-surfing in our hotel room was animated by people. More nice animated commercials to give more jobs to nice artists, please!

My 3yo and my cat share a common interest #makeaterriblecomicday2026
A terrible photo with poor lighting of a 3 panel comic drawn in a journal. Panel 1 depicts a small child sitting on the couch enjoying a cup of yogurt. In panel 2, a figure with pointy ears begins to appear behind the couch. In panel 3 a cat has peeked over the edge of the couch, staring longingly with his crazy eyes at the cup of yogurt.

Ones I remember: a salmon hatchery, a submarine museum, the end of the Oregon Trail, a hike in a temperate rainforest, and a camping trip where we climbed Mt. St. Helens (I do love Milwaukee, but I see will never forgive modern America for pricing me out of living in the PNW as an adult)

Here is a cat in a box, free of charge
A mostly white cat with tortoiseshell splotches on her side and the top of her head (with a reverse widow's peak) lounges in a green cardboard box (that had been used to carry groceries home from Aldi with the words Simply Nature™️ ORGANIC printed on the top) and stares up at the camera with a combination of disdain and bewilderment showing on her face

create ------------------ bonus comics: patreon.com/nhoj
4 panel comic

P1: a right hand draws a wavy stroke on a sketchbook page. A caption box up top reads "draw"

P2: the word "CREATE" dominates a panel with a black background, forming in the negative space. Various small shapes surround it.

P3: a lone simplified humanoid figure is on the bottom right of a another panel with a black background. A thought bubble forms above their head, the words "if not for others, then at least for yourself" within.

P4: The Earth dominates the bottom of the panel, with a sliver of space above it. Clouds swirl and boil across the Earth, which is the only element on the entire page coloured a pink-red. A caption box above reads "now, more than ever"

Someone took issue with me saying that American male Protestants are unique in how they've removed themselves from aesthetics. I thought it was obvs that I'm talking about fashion and interior decor, which today are coded as "gay interests," not paintings or architecture. But let me elaborate. 🧵
Someone posted a video of a husband and wife shopping for interior decor. They wrote: "when will people finally acknowledge the epidemic of men marrying women and being turned gay."

Matt Walsh retweeted them and added: "Dudes like this were already gay. I’ve been married for 14 years and have never been home decor shopping, or even had an opinion on the subject, except for the one time when I had a painting custom made depicting me meeting a group of space aliens. It’s now hanging above a fireplace in our home."

I screenshot Walsh's comment and added: "For a while, it was believed that women and gay men are born with a natural sense for aesthetics. In reality, straight men, particularly American male Protestants, have simply barred themselves from taking an interest in aesthetics bc they think this makes them noble."

Finally, someone retweeted me and added: "Why does anyone listen to what this idiot has to say about aesthetics?" They attached a photo of Edward Hopper's 1942 painting "Nighthawks."

when i think of Colbert, i think of an interview he gave to GQ when he first took over The Late Show, and had this to say about losing his father and brothers in a plane crash. www.gq.com/story/stephe...
“It was a very healthy reciprocal acceptance of suffering,” he said. “Which does not mean being defeated by suffering. Acceptance is not defeat. Acceptance is just awareness.” He smiled in anticipation of the callback: “ ‘You gotta learn to love the bomb,’ ” he said. “Boy, did I have a bomb when I was 10. That was quite an explosion. And I learned to love it. So that's why. Maybe, I don't know. That might be why you don't see me as someone angry and working out my demons onstage. It's that I love the thing that I most wish had not happened.”

I love the thing that I most wish had not happened.

I asked him if he could help me understand that better, and he described a letter from Tolkien in response to a priest who had questioned whether Tolkien's mythos was sufficiently doctrinaire, since it treated death not as a punishment for the sin of the fall but as a gift. “Tolkien says, in a letter back: ‘What punishments of God are not gifts?’ ” Colbert knocked his knuckles on the table. “ ‘What punishments of God are not gifts?’ ” he said again. His eyes were filled with tears. “So it would be ungrateful not to take everything with gratitude. It doesn't mean you want it. I can hold both of those ideas in my head.”
