Abdul El-Sayed on capitalism: “I’m capitalist who just knows about capitalism. I have a bad habit of reading, I’m so sorry.”
We’ve spoken about capitalism versus socialism.

Do you want to talk about capitalism? Let’s talk about capitalism. Are you recording? Capitalism is about leveraging the laws of supply and demand to efficiently allocate capital expenditure to maximize value. When capitalism works, it’s because you have free entry and exit into markets. So if you believe in capitalism, you have to believe in government regulation to protect markets. In fact, right now, we have exactly the opposite. You don’t have to be a socialist to believe that you should be taxing billionaires their wealth. In fact, if you are a capitalist, you should believe in that. So, I’m capitalist who just knows about capitalism. I have a bad habit of reading, I’m so sorry.

Very happy to finally be able to share the news that my next novel, REVEAL!, will be published by @quirkbooks.bsky.social in Spring 2028. It is a fun, wild, weird book. Incredibly grateful to my agent @tommydeanwriter.bsky.social for making this happen.

REVEAL! By Tom McAllister
Imprint: Quirk Books
Author of HOW TO BE SAFE Tom McAllister's REVEAL!, a humorous locked island murder-mystery narrated by an unborn baby, who somehow gives us a tour of a gender-reveal party from hell with dancing whales, a poisoned nepo influencer, and a husband and wife catering team who are in over their heads, to Randall Lotowycz at Quirk Books, in a nice deal, for publication in spring 2028, by Tommy Dean while at Rosecliff Literary (world).

I wrote about Jezebel and the terrifying state of women’s media. www.thehandbasket.co/p/rip-jezebe...
Spanfeller added, “Unfortunately, our business model and the audiences we serve across our network did not align with Jezebel's.”

In other words: Women are tricky! But my from my view, if you’re unable to sell ads on a beloved 16-year-old feminist website with great name recognition during a time when women’s rights are under an unprecedented threat, that says a whole lot more about your business acumen than it does about the quality and importance of the site’s journalism.

Women’s voices have always been considered niche, disposable, fringe, despite us making up more than half the population. Our needs represent the majority, but that isn’t reflected in current media ownership and leadership. And that’s why we find ourselves falling through a glass pothole. We are worse off now than when Jezebel was founded in 2007.

Is there a reason no one ever attributes the Trolley Problem to Philippa Foot, the way there’s Plato’s cave or Descartes’s Cogito? Is it because “Foot” doesn’t sound like a name?
