A small visual way for them to indicate things coming back into balance. This 10000% is not what they are doing, that would be insane and it’s far more likely that the stiffer animation is due to it being a smaller budget (seriously no judgement that’s a completely normal restriction)

And in my ideal world where things are extra cool and intentional, we would see the animation get smoother just as they start studying these scrolls, as if them being more in touch with their histories helps them move more naturally in the world.

At this point even if the queerness was unintentional (which I think is an unfair assumption to make about this show which was VERY INTENTIONAL in all its decisions) Goodbye Lara is one of the openly queerest anime I’ve ever watched.

This was an excellent read! There is so much queerness and accessibility rep in this show even outside of the trans reading (which, holy shit this show is so trans). I really do feel like the backlash will eventually fade and this show will be a must watch Yuri anime.

Honestly the finale of Goodbye Lara was above and beyond what I wanted. I understand some people may be disappointed with it but this was literally the queerest and most joyful and hopeful finale I have ever watched. I will miss this show so much but it was worth every minute #goodbyelara #laramari

And to be even more honest that’s partially why I’m working so hard to write this retrospective because I understand that some people are really upset over it not being queer in the way they wanted and I’m hoping even if it doesn’t make them like the ending it can help people come to terms with it

Especially when this show is explored as a whole piece with now a set ending that we can use to interpret the earlier scenes. It’s not gonna be everyone’s cup of tea but I at least came out of this episode feeling hopeful and queer in a way few shows have gotten me to feel to this extent

Again it’s not that there isn’t anything to critique about the finale, but the more I think about it the more intentionally queer it seems to actually be, and even a broader definition of queerness than we are used to in media of this type

I’ve seen a lot of Japanese fans also celebrate the queerness of the show so I do think that’s a bit reductive to just talk about it as something westerners are more trained to pick up on.

Goodbye Lara Ill say it with my full chest. I truly & utterly loved this show. It’s been a while since a piece of media has made me grapple with so many different emotions. The final few minutes are a tough pill to swallow but one I think was ultimately the right ending for the show. need to ost btw
