Shoot this into the sun. Several of my works were yoinked into the techno-maw and (due to reasons) I am excluded from the class in the Anthropic settlement. The only way to guarantee your use of genAI protects and supports human creators is to use it in the most passive way possible (ie not).

A couple quick observations here, which should be obvious. 1) insurance “risk pools” work by requiring younger/healthier people who make few or no claims to sign up and pay premiums alongside older/less healthy people who do, essentially covering their costs.

The last time he promised something like this it became a tunnel with regular Tesla cars driven by humans at 30 miles per hour.
Elon Musk: Boring Company is working on a simple, precursor Hyperloop tunnel between Austin and San Antonio (>200 mph).
Due to traffic congestion, that journey can currently take up to 2.5 hours. @BoringCompany can reduce that to a consistent <30 mins.

Oh, this is a useful set of statistics. You can use it to assess just what sort of numbers of JOBS the Government means when it says we need the data centres in Ireland for the JOBS. You’d create more employment running a small chain of centras.

PB: Eh.. Could you just attach the pdf to an email. Me: Eh.. no. Contravenes our data security policy and introduces risk of non-compliance with Article 32 GDPR. Restricted access link is better and a bit safer security-wise. PB: We can't open links. Me: Well, I can't send unencrypted attachments.

Pondering the Revolut data breach story www.independent.ie/irish-news/i.... Revolut say root cause was impersonation of "an official government agency email domain". Which government? Which agency? What legal basis cited for the request? Was request naming users or account numbers? Many questions.

This strikes me as more than a PR stunt or even a pressure point. In 1918 Westminster held elections. Nearly all the MPs elected from Ireland were from a nationalist party. They ignored Westminster & formed an Irish Parliament in Dublin* - thus independence as a fait accompli…

Something blows up, CSGO takes the hit, resigns. Consults quietly for a bit, 2 years later hired again by another org (usually the one they were consulting with). Wash, rinse, repeat.

Several years ago (12 years) on a panel at a data management conference in the US I framed my concern at the Chief-X-Officer clutter (then: CDO vs CIO) as really being about having someone to push onto their sword when things went wrong. We actually have CSGOs - Chief ScapeGoat Officers.

It is an accountability sink, unless it has a mandate and clout to actually change organisational operating systems and culture. But it becomes just another voice at a cluttered table.

So, the second part of the cognitive dissonance is the “Hot Potato” game. We already see this within #DataGovernance. There are practices and approaches to address it. But it does mean having to have accountability (not accountability sinks) in the system.

Daragh @ Castlebridge @castlebridge-chief.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
So.. we are then into chain of liability territory, usually after the fact when the bad thing has happened. Which means we are into product liability land (possibly) or corporate fiduciary responsibility territory (definitely), and directors’ duties to shareholders - not new areas or concepts.

Daragh @ Castlebridge @castlebridge-chief.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
The cognitive dissonance I suspect is happening is people in orgs who were told “this magic tool will make it all easier and you can fire Bob and Jenny” are now realising that they are still accountable for the outcomes produced by RoboBob and AgenticJenny but lack the ability to oversee and direct.

And this (commercial) research study by Veeam highlights where rubber is hitting the road: governance of any kind requires accountability somewhere in the system. www.radicalcompliance.com/2026/09/10/m... This isn’t fuzzy handwringing about “guardrails”. This is “who goes to jail?” territory.

The issue is one of making sure risk is assessed and technical and data debt falling due. Treat GenAI as a motivated hostile actor in the network and adjust risk appetite accordingly. If you invite a vampire in, you need to make sure you’re stocked up with garlic and stakes.

What they want is to have friendly think tanks check their homework and rub their tummies. What we need is for regulators to be let take gloves off under existing laws and existing legal liability principles. And for tech companies to stop lobbying against regulation.

Whether records are preserved for archival purposes is a #DataGovernance decision (and often on a case by case basis). But it's a moot decision if the physical records in question are destroyed or beyond use because of improper storage and haphazard filing. castlebridge.ie/insights/rec...

So, hopefully HSE will, as part of their review of records management practices and archival storage, give consideration to the historical and archival value of records. And if archival reasons exist, that needs to be documented. However, there are clear clinical data retention guidelines already.

Interesting view on the value of archival records in today's @irishtimes www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2026... The issue here is the DPC's requirement that records be destroyed if there is no further use for them. Part of that is determining the future use. And archival purposes may be a required use

Opinion: Patient records are a vital part of our history. Destroying them is wrong
DPC ordered the HSE to audit stored records and ‘safely destroy any containing personal data that are no longer needed’. But these records have immense value
