The nyt, which has been heavily invested in spreading transphobic propaganda for the past four years, predictably tries to turn the political landscape inside out today, emphasizing anti-trans views, while minimising the positions of those who have taken winning and principled stances

"We fed her writing into an LLM and it said it was AI" Yeah, fuck off. Not only is this shit hypocritical, it's ghoulish that you spent all that effort basically reading tea leaves on her reporting & putting her work under a microscope to try and find a trans woman to pillory for your own gain.

So these people are human trash who apparently think we're all incredibly stupid. If someone is secretly using AI to write anything, nothing in this is appropriate or suitable for evidencing or uncovering it.
We then used machine learning and stylometrics to analyze the growing influence of large language models (LLMs) on her work. Our analysis shows that Reed’s writing changes at the same time (and in the ways) that AI models changed. LLMs tend to be more long-winded than humans, and Reed’s writing has gotten more long-winded since the release of ChatGPT. Over a three year span, her writing went from being at grade level for a high school junior to being as difficult to read as an academic paper.1.1: Undisclosed AI Use

The point of journalism is to tell human stories. Humans have a way of understanding the world and their role within it which AI does not comprehend. Telling human stories with AI words might get something on a screen, but the true author will never care about the people involved.

The Congressional Equality Caucus has released the following statement in response to our story indicating they will not back candidates who "scapegoat transgender people." Kaptur does not appear as of this morning on their endorsed list. Several who took the same vote as her still do, sadly.
“Equality PAC is proud to support LGBTQ candidates and allies to build Pro-Equality Majorities capable of passing critical legislation like the Equality Act. We will always work with Members of Congress and candidates to educate them on issues affecting the LGBTQ community and deepen their understanding of the challenges our community faces.

The Members and allies we support come from communities across the country, and we recognize that serving in Congress, particularly in a Republican-controlled Congress, can require Members to take difficult votes.

We recognize that no Member will agree with us on every vote, and that is part of the legislative process. We must not lose the art of persuasion, and it is imperative that we continue to welcome “imperfect allies” to facilitate meaningful and lasting change for the LGBTQ community.

But there is a clear line: we will not accept candidates or Members using Republican rhetoric that actively harms members of our community—particularly transgender Americans, who have been the target of sustained attacks from the Trump Administration. Campaigns can be won without scapegoating transgender people. Equality PAC will not support any candidate who chooses to campaign by targeting or demonizing members of the transgender community.

Americans deserve candidates who are focused on the issues that matter most to working families: lowering costs, protecting access to health care, and holding the Trump Administration accountable for its corrupt actions.

Our goal is to build a Congress that fights for the rights of every member of the LGBTQ community and delivers results on the issues that matter most to families across America.

Regarding our support for Frontline Members of Congress: the graphic featured in our newsletter was created by the DCCC and was intended to highlight the full slate of Frontline Democrats heading into the midterms. Its inclusion does not indicate that Equality PAC is supporting every candidate featured in…

As I was saying.
A screenshot of a thread of three posts by Alejandra Caraballo (@esqueer.net) discussing Democratic Party politics and transgender rights.
First post (2/4):
"The push to abandon trans people within the Democratic party has not been organic. It's been funded from the very top by the wealthy donors and consultants. Base voters on the other hand have punished candidates for attempting to abandon trans people. But the money won't be deterred."
Second post (3/4):
"They're constantly putting money into think tanks, media publications, and friendly substack grifters like Matthew Yglesias to get the Dem professional class to agree to abandon trans people. They've been banging that drum for 2 years now nonstop saying it's trans people's fault."
Third post (4/4):
"That's what this is about. It's them following the lead of Labour andopening the door to force the Dem platform to officially abandon trans rights for at least a generation.
You don't hate the donors and the consultant class enough."

If it's all about the long-game and a "generation long slug fest," then the long-term damage of dems learning they can still win general elections by moving right on trans issues will arguably do more harm to trans people nationwide than a single republican term will.
