Oh no, I am just heartbroken to see this terrible news. “Helen Branswell, a renowned infectious disease reporter who earned the respect of experts and public health officials around the world… died Tuesday at age 69. The cause was complications from cancer, said her sister, Brenda Branswell.”

No, they didn't "go rogue." They were given instructions that led them to do this. Or they were inadequately confined to particular areas. We need some serious safety experts looking at these incidents, not the AI believers.

OTD 60 yrs ago, French President Charles de Gaulle observed the 120-kt Betelgeuse nuclear test at Mururoa Atoll. Due to de Gaulle’s reported impatience, the balloon-tethered test proceeded despite warnings of adverse winds, showering Western Samoa, Fiji, and the Cook Islands with radioactive rain.
A black and white photograph of President Charles de Gaulle (far right, hands resting on a console) observing the Betelgeuse test from the bridge of the De Grasse, a French cruiser and the command ship for the test. The device detonated 25 miles away. Four other men are with him. All are dressed in protective coveralls, and two have protective goggles around their necks (for safely viewing the earliest stages of the explosion.A color photograph of the earliest stages of the greenish-yellow Betelgeuse fireball, which casts a glow over the ocean below. 30 years ago today, the United Nations General Assembly approved the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty on a vote of 158-3. Bhutan, India, and Libya all voted no. All five declared nuclear-weapon states (the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, and China) pledged to sign the treaty.
A copy of an article in the September 11, 1996, edition of the New York Times headlined, “U.N. Endorses a Treaty to Halt All Nuclear Testing.” A box in the article contains a chronology of nuclear testing since 1945 and a table of "Known Nuclear Tests Worldwide, 1945-1996" broken down by state (United States, Soviet Union, France, Britain, China, and India) and indicating how many were atmospheric and how many were underground.

The effort to develop and deploy mobile/“mini” reactors for the military is not new (although the reasons Trump Regime is using military sites is, kind of). Past military reactor efforts have generally not proceeded b/c of social, political, & operational as opposed to technical reasons.

Enjoyed reading it. Thanks for the ping. I know the lines are somewhat blurred with Nukes regarding tactical vs. strategic weapons, but US did also field W76-2 ~5kt in 2019 as *low* yield alternative. I am not a fan of that weapon system for many reasons. Looking forward to reading more.

The third vertical cell lists document names beginning with "Tunnel Damage from Ground Shock" and ending with "Historical Documents undergoing classification review." The fourth vertical cell has months in it and the fifth vertical cell has years whose range is from 1951 through 1999 and the last vertical cell as "National Nuclear Security Administration" in all spaces.

40 years ago at this moment (1:23:45 AM local time, April 26), the poorly-designed Chernobyl Unit 4 nuclear reactor in Pripyat, Ukraine, exploded and partially melted down during an unapproved, poorly-conceived safety experiment, releasing at least 378,000,000 curies of dangerous radionuclides.
