It is National Poetry Day in the UK, so for my contribution, I humbly share one of my favourite poems of all time, written by Robert Florence,

BATMAN'S AFF HIS NUT
Batman's aff his nut
Have you seen the way he cuts aboot
Dressed up as a mad fuckin bat
Batterin guys
I was lit at:
"Mate, I'm worried aboot ye
I know your ma and da died
But everybody's ma and da dies
And we're no aw runnin aboot
Hookin muggers and
Kickin psychopaths in the baws."
And that was when Batman went
"Aye, but do ye ever feel like it?
Do you ever look at the world and feel like it?
Like having a big mad base under your hoose?
Do you ever feel like drivin a big mad motor
that turns intae a tank?
And leatherin fuck oot of guys aw night?
Scarin the fuckin shite oot of them?"
And that was when I was lit at:
"Aye. Fuck it. Ah dae."
And that's the Secret Origin of Robin
and everybody else.

Bad brain evening. I am blaming my flu shot. Not every day can be good but still grateful to have them

This argument is "because stupid people exist we should boil everything down to the least common denominator" How well has that worked out every time it's been tried?

We've had chatbots since the 90s. And any reasonable person talking to an LLM can tell the difference. Learn to be in with being wrong.

It bothers me on a deep deep level that people legitimately think a giant probability database containing all of the written works of humanity is *thinking* when it returns query results in natural language. Like use your fucking brain for half a second people.

I drove these roads in a rental Honda Civic Sport and concur on both points. Breathtaking views and very fun roads.

the republicans are wide open on several fronts, historically unpopular president, unpopular war, record high gas. any dem throwing trans people under the bus at this moment is doing it because they want to. not like they need to, do they. even if it worked as a vote winner, which it doesn't

Seriously I don't understand how hard it is to ask these people "so large language models process prompts and provide responses, where in that chain do you see the end of the world?"

I really really feel like this is a devastatingly effective distraction strategy. The name of a thing on a map cannot possibly be a better use of your time than say, registering people to vote. Or donating to a food bank. Or organizing a union.

Dolly Parton dying hits so hard. She felt like one of those figures who always was and always will be. She felt like America when it was trying to be the place it promised to be. As beloved as her music is, it’s even better than people give it credit for. There won’t be another one like her.

Unironically emotional about how lovely this music video is. CRJ's use of family to both celebrate her new husband and child simultaneously to the LGBTQ community that has always loved her is just awesome. Being a fan has never been easier. youtu.be/m2bgsLp943A

Sometimes it's hard to gauge how much a game will remain (and remain, and remain) important immediately after playing it. I'm confident now — 1000xRESIST remains.

if there is one graphic I could get people who are trying to get folks to take any kinds of political action to look at, it's this one. if the goal is action, and you are cultivating feelings in the left hand column with your messaging, you are shooting yourself in the foot.

inertia is overcome by urgency
apathy is overcome by anger
fear is overcome by hope
isolation is overcome by solidarity
self-doubt is overcome by proof of agency

Save the cheerleader save the world. Speculating because there's no official word yet but considering she spent her life struggling with substance abuse disorder, that probably killed her. Our limbicly driven society combined with the shit child stardom does to people... Such a sad story.

The characters in 90s Trek spoke like professionals doing a job when they were on duty as opposed to quip engines. It leant a sense of competence and verisimilitude to things—which also actually made the occasional funnier / lighter bits work better due to the contrast.
