I kid you not, I only learned it was #darksouls’s 15th anniversary because I just happened to look it up today of all days. Anyway, what rings u got?

On the off chance anyone thinks I was hit by a bus, no, work was just greatly slowed throughout August by The Job. I am presently working on pages 11-16 (and other peripheral concept work), and I've got a friend helping with a Mk1 comic site. The first half of chapter 1 is also just quite demanding

May as well "quote post" with "tags" to expand my "reach," as it were. Thank you deckblue for letting me separate them from the body text.

For the curious, here’s what the thumbnail, raw illustration, and final for what is now one of my favorite panels look like in sequence

Been trying to turn basically every day into a workday for the past month and that kind of caught up to me over the weekend so there’s a bit of a delay with the coming update which will probably make sense once the comic catches up to what I’m currently working on. Thank u for ur patience

Cascade @cascadeupdates.bsky.social · 21/07/2026

As an aside it’s possible but not guaranteed that the next update will be the last one before I get a website, which would make it more practical to release 2 pages at a time with double the frequency.

For the sake of auditing my own progress a bit, I would say that actual illustration is about 75% of the work of each page, not including scripting and thumbnailing. I currently have pages 3-5 of chapter 3 sitting on the arrangement floor waiting for the last screws to be tightened.

And welcome to chapter 3! Bola finds herself in some moderately warm water. I've made progress on my buffer, pages 59-61 are done and 62-64 are each about halfway done- posting slows, but the work continues! (pp. 55-58)

Bit of an unorthodox post, but I thought I’d show what some typical thumbnails for the comic look like.

As always, work is ongoing, and as we approach the end of Chapter 2 I'm giving more thought to what the most effective work schedule may be. Chapter 1 was made in large chunks rather than 4 page batches, giving a period of rumination and a view of the big picture that was beneficial despite...

Oh wow, 150 followers! That was sudden. Here, have a life size Bola hand (ft. my hand and a 5lb chicken to scale) I sketched a bit ago for fun/practice. It's 14 inches long, and 17.5 inches wide splayed out. I also roughed in an outline of her head to better contextualize it.

A rough graphite drawing of Bola's splayed out hand, with an outline of her head behind it.

Same as previous, but with a human hand on the right side of the page. It's a lot smaller.

The drawing again but with a raw chicken in front of it. It looks easily palmable by the hand.

One of the beauties of post processing is that it lets me play around on the raw sheets with no consequences

Unedited illustration of Bola from Cascade tilting her head and twirling her finger next to it.

50 pages reached, hooray! Only 3 pages this update so we can get back in sync with the intended page turn order next update, which the spread a few pages ago threw off. Odd pages are left pages in chapter 2. (pp. 50-52)

First time posting the new update I forgot to make it a reply, second time bsky put the pages in the wrong order. Third time’s the charm as soon as I get back from the Burger Store. Apologies folks

Bit of a deal sweetener, starting with the coming update I’ll be peppering some easter eggs in the raw scans available for T2 subs. Here’s an example. Also, I’m probably moving next update’s release date to Dec. 20th.

Now that I've reached 100 followers (thank you!) I want to do a celebratory Q and A. If you're curious about anything to do with the world or process, leave a comment and I'll answer if it doesn't spoil anything. If it's a fun one, I might throw in a doodle, too. (I may take a while to answer)

Bad news: no update on the 27th, because I’ve been procrastinating. Good news: I’ve been procrastinating by doing concept art and learning to make environmental references in blender, which will improve the comic in the future.

Among the most massive living things in all the Eastern Cuplands, ogratox trees are built to survive the tremendous blazes of the long Kunoese dry season, natural or cannymade. Huge lateral root systems push back more flammable trees, and yard-thick bark absorbs what flames lap at their extremities.

Looking likely that the update will be delayed until the 21st. Besides just having more time in the oven, I’d rather these pages come out when my hemisphere is awake. Thank you for your patience! Enjoy this in the meantime.

Bola, the protagonist of the comic Cascade, confronting Peter Griffin at his front door. She is drawn faithfully in the style of Family Guy, complete with her colors, which are ordinarily not seen. Her skin is a greyish tan, and her mane is a deep reddish brown. Peter Griffin looks shocked, while Bola has a slight and relaxed grin.

Should still be on track for the 20th. Worst case, the 21st. Post processing the comic's first spread now.

Update forecast: actually going to be a 5 page update on January 1, and I'll aim for a further 8 on January 27th, which'll be the 1st anniversary of me starting page 1's illustrations. This is partly to avoid reinjuring my hand, which doing 4 pages' worth of illustrations in ~8 days came close to.

Taking steps to improve my efficiency with these next batches of pages. Current forecast is a 4 page mini-update by November 19th, and a further 8 or 9 by January 1, depending on how the holidays shake out.
