I’ve never had as visceral an experience listening to a Broadway cast album as I did with GYPSY. “Rose’s Turn” BROKE me. The places Audra goes to vocally & emotionally—raw & unrelenting, in service to character, story, score—is absolutely astonishing. It was like I was hearing it for the 1st time 😭

Oh. My 10-year-old dog has unlocked a new "trick". It's called bark-n-fart. The harder he barks... well, you get the gist. *sigh* Actually, oh God — no sighing. Because that means inhaling first, and THE AIR 😭

Is it possible to repair shoes, handbags etc where the leatherette stuff starts flaking & peeling off but everything else is in good shape? It’s so annoying & wasteful, so trying to see if I can salvage them? 🥴

I've been fascinated by how "ponche de creme" replaced "ponche crema" & "punch a creme" (a Trini hyper-correction?). So much so, I talked to a linguist about that & the history behind festive favourites we enjoy in the Caribbean at this time of year: www.caribbean-beat.com/issue-173/fo...

Sometimes I think about Joni Mitchell being, like, 22 when she wrote “Both Sides Now”…the wisdom & beauty of that song flowing out of someone so young. Virtually every arrangement or cover of it completely dismantles me…especially her live performances. Such a special song; such a special soul

I don’t have tolerance for people badmouthing folks I care about—or who just don’t deserve it. At minimum, I will end/exit the conversation…or, very likely, just call it out (starting gently)…especially if it’s a pattern of slagging decent people off for no good reason. Do unto others, man. Jeez.

This reminds me of the time I was looking someone up in the campus directory at college and came across someone listed as “Cummings, Dickie”. So: Dickie Cummings. I always wanted to ask him if, assuming “Dickie” was short for Richard, he didn’t opt for Rick or Rich, etc. Because, I mean…

That line—“What is grief, if not love persevering”—remains one of the most beautiful, profound & succinct I’ve ever encountered on a TV show. I still think of it every time another wave hits, remembering the bittersweet privilege it is to ache, to miss, grieve…love in need of a place to go

If you’re lucky enough for 2024 to have been a great year, give thanks, pay it forward & hold the people you love close…because it’s been a litany of challenges, losses & grief for many, punctuated by glimmers of joy, love & community. Take nothing & no-one for granted, lovelies. Truly 🙏🏽😔💜

Awww, my littlest doggie has a bum leg, so I have to lift her on to all her favourite furniture (that she's not supposed to be on, but she so cute!). She generally doesn't move once she's up there — unless I sneeze. Then she jumps down to make sure I'm not actually dying, bless that sweet baby 😭💜🐶
