Can’t eat a sandwich until you subscribe to sandwiches. Can’t eat today’s sandwich until it has applied daily sandwich updates. Sandwich now has adverts even though you paid for ad-free sandwich. Can pay again to have less sandwich adverts. Now you can eat the sandwich, but it’s smaller.

Chuck Norris made a two-day stop in my hometown more than 50 years ago and his visit is still discussed often and with great reverence.

Today someone I'd spoken to only once several months ago recognized the sound of my laugh from across a coffee shop, which is a little embarrassing but I suppose there are worse things to be recognized for.

Going through some notes and ephemera — by which I mean old social media posts — and am reminded that the women's college where I used to teach liked to refer to its security cameras as Big Sister.

"The office siren: is definitely the one who brought fish for lunch, left it open in the shared fridge, though she will not admit it. Fish is far from her first choice. Her colleagues should be happy they’re not in the fridge, chopped into pieces, in a Tupperware with her name on it." Relatable.

It started with a seemingly innocuous assumption, an easily made logical leap: For a rather long time, archeologists who found burial sites with weapons or hunting gear inside would label the remains as male. Fresh new piece: www.broadhistory.com/weve-been-ve...

I love when my translators have questions. The splendid Mikael Cabon in France needs to know if a river in Written on the Dark flows into the sea or into another river: his word choice will be different. When translators are careful it is a gift to an author AND a reminder to protect them from AI.

Went to the bank today and the man in front of me is asking if there's a way to keep his wife from seeing certain things. I straighten to full height — 5'9" in those boots — so when he turns around the first thing he sees is an ENORMOUS woman looking down on him with eyebrows of disgust.

tired: astrology wired: a 2012 study commissioned by the British Egg Industry Council examining correlations between preferred egg preparation and personality traits I'm not a Libra, I'm poached.
screen grab that says: Poached eggs: The average poached egg-eater is likely to have two children and no more than one older brother or sister. They are found all across the UK and are more likely to be women than men. A taste for poached eggs increases as one gets older. Generally, eaters are also most likely to be outgoing socially and energetic extraverts. They may have a tendency to wear decorative clothing and prefer upbeat and lively music. They are also probably happier than most.

There's a song I used to hear growing up and the kicker to it was "no matter how bad things get/life will be better when you're not in it." I tried to use a once-reliable search engine to identify the song, but it told me to call a crisis hotline. I hate AI so hard.
