#OTD 1961 - The ferocious Siege of Jadotville comes to an end. The brave soldiers were not the only Irish natives pressed into service that dramatic week - their Ford MkVI armoured cars were built by Thos. Thompson & Son in Carlow. Like the soldiers, it had no reverse gear. #ThrowbackThursday

This week 1966 - Can't hear, can't see, too cramped, too hot, too cold, not enough seats, a press area resembling "a cocktail bar"... Unlike today, Carlow Co. Co. meetings in the Courthouse during the 1960s sound less like local government and more like an endurance challenge: #ThrowbackThursday

Ahead of our Heritage Potato Harvest event tomorrow (Borris Library, 2pm, all ages welcome) we remember a time when the harvest was so much more important. It was a time that determined if the months to follow would bring survival, emigration, or, tragically, starvation. #ThrowbackThursday

2006 - The recent warm, dry, summer weather has unfortunately brought gorse fires to counties Kerry, Cork, Westmeath, Tipperary and Wicklow. It’s a reminder of 2006, when Mount Leinster faced a similar blaze, though that one freakishly struck in the depths of winter. #ThrowbackThursday
