@deserterblog.bsky.social these things are South African (who are a people who know how to eat!) and they're amazing, especially the chilli and coriander. Definitely my new favourite crisps.

I feel much the same about my email app which, after a recent update, now congratulates me for reading emails. "You're on a streak. Well done!"

Well I held a symbolic referendum to rename Piddington to Racist-Nimbyton and it was carried by a majority of 100% - so there.

No shops in victoria station selling eclipse glasses (not even out of stock, just nothing) and I get the sense we've lost a sort of unseen infrastructure.

Absolutely zero mention in this as to whether the human written stories were any good

AI-generated stories rated better quality than human-written ones, study finds
Researcher says simpler writing by AI is easier to read and digest, but this does not mean human authors are obsolete

We are in Whitby the same time as a steampunk festival and it is striking that there are no young steampunks. 90% over 50 at a guess. Thing is I am sure steampunk wasn't a thing when they (and I) were young. They must have all come to steampunk as adults.

Am often put off by just the sheer length of TV shows other people love. E.g. The Wire sounds great, but 60 episodes!

my husband is doing fantasy baseball for the first time. he does not follow baseball. his team is run entirely by our 10yo neighbor, who gets a split of his winnings if she helps my husband defeat the rest of the league. they’re in 1st place! but now, a problem: today she left for sleepaway camp

Graphic design is my passion.
A sign that has two concentric rings of text but it's laid out in a confusing way so it looks like the first sentence is "it's against the law to keep alcohol out of the hands of youth" and the second sentence is "supply alcohol to minors."

Another afternoon of transcribing early modern recipes; and already a reminder of how very lucky we are to have non-millipede-based healthcare in the 21st century
A page from an early modern recipe book calling for 'A good quantity of Millipedes'

I am a European who was, well, very impressed at least, when I had proper Mexican food for the first time (in Austin), but that's because I'd only had tex-mex before and had no idea what to expect. Sadly the names of everything was in Spanish and I've no idea what we ate.

Went to the Constable Vs Turner exhibition. After going behind in the early rounds, Constable won a comfortable 8-3 on 'dogs'. Turner took 'naked ladies' 7-0. In a nail biting decider Turner took the exhibition on 'biggest rock' despite several rocks being disallowed for being made up.
