One of the only times Alastor looks at Vox during the overlord meetup is when he's adjusting his volume settings. I like to think he's taking notes. Charlie was always the first and foremost thing on Vaggie's mind; she had been for the last three-and-a-half years. And right now, Vaggie couldn't get her mind off the memory of Charlie turning away from her, giving her the cold shoulder when she'd tried to help her up after they'd been returned from Heaven. It was the first time her girlfriend had shut her out in their whole relationship, and it broke her heart.
She knew Charlie wasn't coming up with anything, not with how long she'd spent upstairs.
Vaggie knew she'd hurt her lover badly, and oh how she hated herself for it.
But how could she have told Charlie she was an angel? When could she possibly have told her? When they first met, when Charlie plucked her from that dark and bloody alleyway?
Sure, she knew now that the Princess of Hell wouldn't have killed her if she'd known she was tending to an Exorcist - but at the time, Vaggie hadn't known that. At the time, she'd feared that any demon who came across her would have killed her on sight. It was what she'd been taught, after all: that sinners and demons were sinful, violent creatures who threatened Heaven and all that was good in the universe.
Even the beautiful, kind woman who'd been so horrified by her wounds and had bandaged her up without question - Vaggie had thought she'd turn on her, if she'd known what she was. Or thrown her back out into the streets, to be at the mercy of angry, vengeful sinners.
By the time Vaggie knew for sure that Charlie wasn't that kind of being, trusted that Lucifer's daughter was in fact fairer, kinder, better than any angel she'd known in Heaven... she'd kept up the ruse of being a sinner so long that she'd known in her heart it would destroy Charlie if she found out. The pain wouldn't be in the truth, it would be in that Vaggie had lied.
By the time she trusted Charlie not to kill her, she was afraid for a completely different reason.

At last, Angel broke the silence.
"Soooo, Dollface is takin' this whole 'secret identity you kept from her' thing reeeeal rough, huh?" he snarked, both sets of arms folded and an eyebrow raised tauntingly at her.
Vaggie gave a half-hearted scoff and turned her back to him. Ignore him, and he'd stop, right?
Wrong. "No wonder your trust exercises were shit."
"Shut up, Angel," she growled back.
"Legs's got a point," Husk butted in, coming - annoyingly - to Angel's defence as he returned with a fresh bottle of cheap booze. He plonked his butt down in the armchair with a grunt. "Throwin' us into a warzone for us to fight our way out? You being a soldier, an Exorcist no less, explains why you put us through that shitshow."
"Yeahhhh," Angel concurred, waggling his hand cosi così, "it was giving 'shitty drill sergeant.
Oh, he had no idea what a real shitty drill sergeant was like. Vaggie shook off the memory of Lute that had wormed its way into her mind, as well as the phantom ache that had suddenly flared up on her back.
Pentious, still stroking Keekee, nodded idly. "Yesss, it wasss... harsssh. Though I mussst admit, it did bring usss clossser together.."
Angel rolled his eyes. "Get off of da fence, Pen"."

Vaggie turned her attention to Pentious. "He's still designing weapons!" The serpent had indeed gotten out a notepad and started scribbling something down, using Keekee as a desk. He startled as she gestured at him.
"I-I-uhh-it'sss only theoretical!" he protested, scrambling to get the notepad back to the safety of a pocket.
Vaggie snatched it away from him and scrutinised it; the page held nothing more than a jumble of vague diagrams, equations, and chemical symbols she couldn't for the life of her figure out. "What is this?"
"Ah-well, I've been on the verge of a breakthrough with the ussse of angelic sssteel in my ray gun for yearsss," Pentious placated, albeit proudly, "to harnessss itsss blessssed energy for unssstoppable dessstructive power! Alasss, I wasss interrupted ssso many timesss..."
"By who?" Vaggie pressed him further.
The snake blushed and averted his eyes. "
...one Miss Cherri Bomb..."
"And there it is." She felt vindicated in her judgement. "You got into turf wars, and you got hammered last night, all because you had the hots for someone. You. Set. Youself. Back." She poked Pentious in the chest, punctuating each word, making him quail and shrink back from her.

"What did you DO?!" Vaggie all but launched herself across the room, looming (to the best of her abilities) in front of Alastor. Even seated, he was still slightly taller than her, but she'd never let that stop her before and she wouldn't let it stop her now. Maybe, if she still had her wings, she would've been much more intimidating. She wondered if, before she lost them, she could have actually put the fear of God into him and his black heart.
