Today’s words from ‘Wardrobes and Rings’ written after a snowfall on a cottage in the Yorkshire countryside. The snow is melting. Aslan is on the move! Tx u #JuliaGolding @canterburypress.bsky.social
Words of a poem:

This house has been ...

The house has been on the Snow Queen's sledge,
Lost with Hansel and Gretel in dark woods.
The White Queen Jadis set her wolves upon us
And Saruman brought down Caradhras to block our easy path.

Now the sun rises and all looks innocent, Trees iced for a too-late Christmas.
Children in red boots hold small fists of snow.
A man in fluorescent yellow strolls with his jacketed dog,
A bright spark of daffodil nosing under sagging brambles.
All talk and marvel, sharing the short-lived miracle
That like a guest is only welcome if it doesn't stay too long.

'This path becomes treacherous,' he says, waving his stick in farewell.
The dog flashes his warning and disappears around the bend,
Leaving me to the falling snow,
To wizards and the queens who wish me ill
But melt.

Late or Not-Quite Conversions - Thorin and Gollum
J.R. R. Tolkien, The Hobbit and The Two Towers

When we talk about conversions, most of the world now thinks of building work, such as turning the attic into an extra bed-room. This seems to have little to do with its religious meaning of the most important decision you take in your life. Or does it?
Are we not repurposed when we decide to follow Christ? We're no longer the falling-down shed but the stable in which Christ may be born.Cover of the book Wardrobes and Rings
