"No Longer Coverable", by Jayden Deskes (2025) Art on loan from Kijicho Manito Madaouskarini Algonquin First Nation. Thank you; we are grateful. Tonight, our museum sign will be illuminated orange to acknowledge National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Two canvases nailed together depict an unnamed residential school. An opening, partly stitched together, reveals orange and red handprints beneath the surface. The orange handprints represent truth and reconciliation. The red reflects teachings received by the artist that red is a colour the spirit world can see. Together, the handprints bear witness to the physical and spiritual violence of residential schools.Artwork: "No Longer Coverable"
