Sagal Abdi-Wali came to the UK aged 7 having fled the war in Somalia with her family. She has thrived. Leader of Camden council and now the MP for Holborn and St Pancras. A narrative that runs counter to all we are told about refugees. Congratulations www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Ballots will drop tomorrow for voting in the NEC elections. I am restanding and hope that Labour party members will continue to support me. These NEC elections matter because they will help determine how Labour prepares for the next General Election.

If anyone understands regional inequalities and the necessary instruments to address this most pernicious element of the British economy it is John. In my role on the NEC , and as a camapigner, I look forward to seeing a real devolution dividend and wish John every success.

Yorkshire's RDA, Yorkshire Forward, certainly punched to its weight if not beyond. As a Treasury Minister at the time John was an advocate of RDAs and worked collaboratively with Yorkshire Forward in particular - helping to drive much of the successes.

The appointment of John Healey to Chancellor is welcome news to those of us who have campaigned for further and deeper devolution over the decades. Some of you will be old enough to remember the Regional Development Agencies [RDAs] brought in under Labour in 1998.

It is sometimes a tough gig. The connection between the party and its members at the grassroots is vital and must be nurtured. Unity is also important to members and that an inward looking, fractious party does not win.

Re Gorton: Andy Burnham would not have won Labour the seat but he may have got Labour into second position. The idea that Burnham would have found 6,000 votes when those claiming that are also saying that it was Gazza is inconsistent to say the least.
