What if organs could be printed? 🧬 3D bioprinting is advancing fast. To help bring this technology safely into healthcare, @ec.europa.eu JRC, CEN and CENELEC gathered 56 experts from 17 countries to explore standardization needs. Read the report now! 👇 lnkd.in/evkHaR2p
𝟑𝐃 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞. 🧬 By printing living cells layer by layer, this emerging technology can create biological tissues and could one day enable patient-specific organs that are fully compatible with the body.
However, transforming promising laboratory research into safe and reliable clinical applications requires clear regulatory frameworks and well-defined technical standards across Europe.
To explore these needs, the Joint Research Centre (JRC), together with CEN and CENELEC, organised the two-day workshop “3D Bioprinting: Towards Standards in Biomedicine.” The event brought together 56 experts from 17 countries to identify key areas where standardization can support the safe development of this technology.
The workshop report highlights several priorities for future standardization efforts:
✅ Addressing challenges related to reproducibility and scalability
✅ Harmonising safety assessment approaches for bioprinted tissues
✅ Aligning technical standards with healthcare and clinical needs
