Hey #PortfolioDay ! Im Tom and i paint fantastical landscapes and environments ☕ ko-fi.com/teneabron 🎨 cara.app/tenaebron
An ancient structure is ankered above woodlands in a circle of standing stones, a treck of pilgrims can be seen approaching through a clearing a sort of gathering site directly underneath. The Structure rises above the clouds into the nights sky, in the upper levels, back lit by a galaxy, lights can be seen in some windows. but surely no one can live up there?A procession arriving at an invisble gate between two obsidian pillars, storns and watching crows around.
n the foreground a backlight figure seems to be studying a huge orb that hangs in the air like a planet, averything is bathed in light and dark and mist and all around levitate more spheres of different sizes. In a red storm under a blue sun, two mongs aproach a standing stone, their heads bowed.

It's a neat trick! I tried a number of materials, most smudge and fade quickly or is too reflective. Since I don't want to varnish pages out of everything available here nice black pencils were the best.

Digital painting of a creature made of arms barging down a dark corridor. It's dark, with skin ridged like bark yet but smooth like obsidian, and embers rise from it. The hands don't look quite human, with weird joints and sharp tendons and knuckles. Its lower half is still forming, and there's an overturned brazier behind it spilling incandescent coal on the floor. It's holding most of its hands in menacing claw-like positions, with arms intertwined in the center forming the bulk of its body. It stands taller than a person, but isn't large enough to fully block the passage.

The corridor is flanked by tall windows in art deco style, with a gentle breeze blowing the translucent curtains. There are ornamental plants and wood benches by the windows. Some of the window panels are broken, and there are glass shards on the benches and floor. There's also dust spiraling in the air. The corridor doesn't seem well-kept, but hasn't been abandoned for long.

This artwork was made on Krita, with help of Blender mainly for lighting reference and the background.Three character digital portrait paintings showing:

- A girl with short curly brown hair. She's in 3/4, almost profile, and has thick eyebrows and a bit of full cheeks. The portrait is cropped at the shoulders height.
- A Black teenager boy with his gaze locked into the horizon. He's holding his head high in an almost stately manner.
- A woman with brown braided hair and doe eyes. She's gazing into the distance and the rendering style mixes brushwork with sharper transitions, being reminiscent of sculptures. An Indigenous woman emerging from a body of water. Only the top of her head down to the nose are visible. There's a dark forest behind her, and she's staring directly at the viewer with fixed intensity that suggests she might not be friendly. She's surrounded by stylized aquatic plants including Amazon's vitória-régias, a type of water lily. Insects are buzzing around and the reflection of the sky can be seen on the water. The scene's colors are very saturated, but somewhat dark and ominous.

She's Iara. Her legend is a mess, an attempt by colonizers to make sense of older Tupi and Guarani myths. In it she's the daughter of the Pajé, the spiritual leader of her people, and was known for her beauty and fighting prowess, respected by her father, beloved by all.

One night her brothers, deeply envious of her, set up an ambush. She fought back and accidentally killed them in the ensuing scuffle. Severely wounded and afraid of her father's punishment, Iara fled to the margins of the Negro and Solimões rivers (which feed the great Amazon river), but was found and thrown into it, drowning. The fishes took pity on her, and under the full moon they turned her into a mermaid.

Then the once fearsome warrior... apparently decided to sit on a rock, brush her hair and sing (and lure and drown men) like European sirens, hah.

2/2 - Flatten is also good for flatter planes, but if you really need something truly flat it's easier to model or boolean it *then* sculpt details - Elastic Grab and 2D Grab are great to adjust without introducing bumps Lastly, I hate that bsky gives us so few chars I have to break up replies. 😂

1/2 - It's *very* hard to get smooth surfaces on higher resolutions, so set the dynotopo or multires res lower and only increase when you need details - I like clay strips to add/remove clay, it's predictable and flatter - I'll add clay and hit shift to smooth often so it doesn't build up messily

Sketchbook pages from 01-2024. It's from before I started using a color pencil for darker blacks or mixing acrylic paint, so it's a bit faded.
Photo of an open sketchbook with pencil sketches. It has studies of portraits of people mostly from early 1900s.

Page 1:
1. A girl with curly hair tied with a large bow looking to the side and smiling.
2. A dark-haired man with a moustache and a goatee(?) looking to the side.
3. A woman with a wavy bob cut smiling, with her mouth slight open as if she were talking at the time.

Page 2:
1. A young man wearing a cap and what seems to be a porter uniform. He has a serious expression.
2. A man with a pointy moustache, wearing a hat.

A banner with 5 digital artworks showing the range of work I do: Concept art, creatures, character portraits, game props, illustrations, and cover art.

They're paintings in the fantasy and sci-fi genre:

1. A Black woman in a 1940's inspired outfit (concept art for the player character in a UE5 videogame)
2. An horror scene with an undead creature made of arms advancing towards the viewer in the style of a trading card game
3. Portrait of a character wearing a discreet scifi device
4. A game prop
5. A close up of an environment painting: a lake with foliage and lily pads

The banner has "commercial and private commissions open" written on it, with my email address and instructions to use the link in the post for private commissions.

Another week, another portrait! This one is from November, with the "fun" fact it's actually repainted from an early 2024 thumbnail. I'm always low on storage and got a new HD last year that nuked itself one month in, as soon as I temporary moved some archived stuff to it to make room. 🥲

3/3 - Find or create a comfy matcap. This is the one I use, I like neutral colors and anisotropy to see planes better. Free download: ko-fi.com/s/522fa55057 The video I mentioned: www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4Wt... And proko's channels seem good, but no idea why he has so many.
A screen capture of blender's 3d interface with a sculpture, showing 3 different views of the same sculpture:
- A work view with a matcap
- A view slightly from the bottom, with material shading
- A second helper view using full shading and light

Camila Brun @camilabrun.com · 31/03/2025
2/3 Sculpting digitally on Blender, I'd add: - Set up multiple views of your sculpture, one matching the ref if any, one in profile or 3/4 and your working view. - If your PC allows it, use the viewport shading mode with actual materials and light in the auxiliary views. It helps a lot!

1/3 (links at the end) It's though because I like to learn things trying instead of following guides. 😅 There's this video about real clay sculpting that's nothing extraordinary but shows things that help in 3d sculpt: - Go from structure to details - Get the profile right asap - Measure landmarks

Sketchbook pages from 05-2025. Something I had no idea is this fun to draw until I tried are beards and moustaches! The bushier the more interesting they are to render. 😆
An open sketchbook with pencil drawings of mostly people from late 1800s.

Page one: 1) A frowning mature man in profile. He's a bit overweight, balding and got sideburns, but no beard on his chin. 2) A startled-looking hawk with its head thrown back, beak wide open saying "AH!" on a speech bubble. 3) A girl smiling at the viewer. Her dark straight hair is loose and thrown to the side, giving her a relaxed look. 4) A serious Black man staring intently at the viewer. He's got a moustache, closely-cropped hair and kind eyes. 5) A teenager looking into the distance. Her large doe eyes give her an appearance of innocence. She's fat with full cheeks. Her hair falls onto her shoulders in luxurious curls and she's also sporting short bangs.

Page two: 1) An older man almost in profile. He's clad in a military uniform complete with epaulettes. His hair is light or graying, and he's got a moustache. 2) A smiling woman in profile. She's got a classic 1900s chignon and is wearing a white dress. 3) Iron Tail (Siŋté Máza), an Oglala Lakota Chief and performer with Buffalo Bill's Wild West. He's smiling and looking up, to the side. 4) A man in a suit, staring at the viewer. His hair is dark, slicked and combed back and to the sides, intensifying the looks of his wide forehead. He's got an also carefully groomed handlebar moustache.

By April I settled in using a black color pencil with a slightly damp tip for deeper blacks and a acrylic paint mixed to the exact shade of the paper, but lighter, for highlights.
Close-up of sketch 1, page 1, (elegant's woman mugshot). She was so pretty! I'm very happy with the blend of paint and hatching in this one.A close-up photo of the portrait 2, page 2, (young possibly Latin-descendant woman with white bow) taken from a steep side angle to keep the acrylic paint highlights from looking grey in this lighting.Close-up photo from portrait 4, page 1, (the Japanese envoy) because I loved his expression and want to show how I'm working the paint into the sketches.

Pencil sketches from 04/2024. Some photos I took aren't great, but the people are!
An open sketchbook with various sketches of people from mostly 1900s.

Page 1: 1) A woman in a hat and an elegant coat, its neck lined with black feathers. She's looking directly in the camera. It's based on a mugshot; she's been arrested for "loitering", which at the time was often used to arrest sex workers. 2) A young woman looking up. She seems to be of mixed heritage, partially Black. Her hair is tied in a low bun and she's wearing a high-collared white dress. 3) A rainbow stag beetle (Phalacrognathus muelleri australia) with wings wide open. 4) A Japanese man looking directly into the camera. He was the Japanese envoy to Great Britain in 1862. He's wearing traditional Japanese wearing hair and clothing, complete with what seems to be a katana to his side. 5) An older man in 3/4, with graying hair and moustache. He has an air of dignity around him.

Page 2: 1) A Black man in 3/4. He has a long face and is very serious. 2) A young woman in 3/4. She's wearing a large white bow on her collar, has curly hair in a low bun and seems to have some Latin heritage. 3) A woman in profile. Her wavy hair is arranged in a classic and elegant 1900s bun. 4) A modern hanfu model. She's actually wearing a qipao, a style introduced in the 20th, inspired by Manchu fashion. She's looking off camera and has a slightly stern expression.
