Loved working on this mock game cover/concept image I did as part of my limit break mentorship with Dan Vargas, Senior Art Director at Ubisoft. We wanted to create a kind of alternate 1980's portland, where the tech is slightly more advanced and people are 'upgrading' their bodies. #indiedev

A while back amazing and legendary artist
Tim O'Brien reached out to me to give me one of the most distinct honors of my career. To paint his portrait in honor of his time as president of the Society of Illustrators. This painting would join the incredible ranks of presidential portraits painted throughout the history of the esteemed Society of Illustrator.
It blows my mind that my work is now held in the same spaces where Norman Rockwell, Howard Pyle, NC Wyeth, Mead Schaefer and so many of my artistic heroes both frequented and where some of their work resides.
But this request held many layers of personal significance for me.
You see when I was 19 | submitted a painting to be considered for the Student Scholarship from the Society of Illustration. However at that time my work did not get selected. It broke my heart so utterly, I thought I had no

broke my heart so utterly, I thought I had no future in art. However, two decades-ish later, I now get to be a part of the Society of Illustrators with an unimaginable honor. It feels like a reaffirming hug to my younger self, and a reminder that time and perseverance can truly take you to unique and unexpected places.
So thank you Tim, for your trust in me. I worked so long to ensure this portrait was worthy of you and the institution. I can't wait to visit the Society again, and see these in person. Which if you are able to, please view in person, as with all oil paintings, they are best seen in person! :)

today is my 28th birthday! as we all know, sharing artists’ work makes them very happy. thank you for all your continuing support and newfound friendships this year, it means the world to me.

touching. jitka knows. she’s looking down, trying to reach them with her fingers, but alas. that heart is already full.

there are herbs’ silhouettes in the background. according to the list of plants with symbolism on wiki, here’s their meaning. astragalus for hans (your presence softens my pain), heliotrope for henry (emblem of faithfully devoted love), and rue for jitka (regret, sorrow, repentance, grace, clear vision , disdain).
