people are saying maybe the cornell case leads to the end of campus greek life. which feels daunting but plausible. my preference though would be the end of ivy league universities & everyone whose degree is from one of them has to wear a dunce cap until they've officially proven they aren't a shit

Colouring books are really hard to market pre-release because if you share any of the images or talk about making a colouring book, everything gets immediately scraped

I would open photos in Corel Painter (or maybe it was Corel Paintshop pro?) just to lift the watercolor layer and the export as a PSD to do my colours elsewhere. Reminds me of this meme: #digitalart #art

Dreaming every day of a feature that was in Corel Painter (I think??) back in the day called “Lift Watercolor Layer” that would automatically separate ink drawings on a photo layer and make the background transparent. At the click of a button. This was before AI. Photoshop could never. #art

Drawn during illustration school in 2021. You can see I was figuring out my style in a big way. Some design elements, Moebius was FRESH in my mind, I was working in CMYK even for digital stuff… “Eden Creek” digital (I think sketchbook pro? RIP) #art #illustration

I’m designing a magic system that can be used for homebrew shit where you draw pictures as a method of spellcasting. You slowly build a grimoire of spells that worked. Working title, rough logo. Everything is rough at this stage! #ttrpg #magic #wizard #art

Sometimes a post of mine on threads (shudder) gets popular, and the only reason I realize is because men start replying with shit like this
There's also a subset of very educated people -also artists- who are cognizant of military research papers authored and accidental leaks over the years that paint a picture of the driving forces behind the algorithm so many worship. And then we ask ourselves- is engaging anyone on a network that you've never met irl actually worth the risk of accidentally landing into a network like the one Eglin AFB was using for research?

No. Most real artist say no at the recognition of evil.

I mentioned the other day that for the Mesopotamian rpg I was writing up Plato's Allegory of the Cave (from REPUBLIC) as if it had been written by the Iron Age predecessor of Lovecrafts' Abd al-Hazred. I did. Here it is, in a four-part post. Notes: Rúgúzid is the Iron Age al-Hazred;
2282. Near the end of this year, Rugúzid finished what he believed would be his last and greatest work. He had spent the previous fourteen months in deep thought, usually writing only a sentence or two every day and always following up by double- and triple-checking everything in the sentence or sentences, including the placement and appropriateness of the punctuation marks. When he had at last completed the essay and was satisfied that it said everything it needed to say as clearly as possible and in just the right words, he leaves his apartment, walks across Babilim to the headquarters of the Nam Abgal, and orders the scribes working there to make copies of the essay—dozens of them, on papyrus and linen scrolls, on clay and stone tablets, on wax writing boards, on moving stone tablets, and on every other material and item which the other Nam Abgal members preferred to read from. When the scribes have finished, Rugúzid paid the Nam Abgal couriers to bring one copy of the essay to each member of the Nam Abgal with haste, no matter how far away their homes were.
What he had written bore the title On Shadows, Forms, and Perfect Forms. For a few years, it was the most powerful thing Rugúzid had ever written. It had the effect of a thunderbolt, or shower of thunderbolts, on the members of the Nam Abgal, who were variously nonplussed, disconcerted, amazed, bewildered, or deeply, deeply impressed—but none doubted the truth of what he had written.
The most important passage of On Shadows was the
following:

Imagine a group of mortals—humans and other intelligent folk, like anthrōpotauroi and kéntauroi and brazen folk—living in an underground cave-like dwelling, with an entrance a long way up, which is both open to the light and as wide as the cave itself. They’ve been there since childhood, fixed in the same place, with their necks and legs fettered, able to see only in front of them, because their bonds prevent them from turning their heads around. Light is provided by a fire burning far above and behind them. Also behind them, but on higher ground, there is a path stretching between them and the fire. Imagine that along this path a low wall has been built, like the screen in front of puppeteers above which they show their puppets.

Then also imagine that there are some other group of mortals along the wall, carrying all kinds of artifacts that project above it—statues of various intelligent folk and of various animals, made of stone, wood, iron, and every other material. And, as you’d expect, some of the carriers are talking, and some are silent.

Would the prisoners see anything of themselves and each other besides the shadows that the fire casts on the wall in front of them?
No, they couldn’t—their heads are motionless because of their bonds. Likewise with the things being carried along the wall.

If they could talk to each other, they would all believe that the words they use to name the shadows were correctly applied to those shadows. And if the cave had echoes from the wall in front of the prisoners, the prisoners would believe that it was the shadows passing in front of them that were talking.

In all, the prisoners would believe that the shadows they were seeing were the entirety of those beings—that the truth lay in those shadows.

Now, imagine how the prisoners would feel if they were rescued, released from their bonds and cured of their ignorance by being shown the figures and things casting the shadows. When one of the prisoners was suddenly rescued and stood up, walked forward, and turned his head so that he could see the source of the light—his reaction to seeing the things whose shadows he’d previously been seeing would not be relief. He would be dazzled, yes, but also dizzied, discomforted, unstable, uncertain, and painfully vulnerable.

What do you think that prisoner would say if they were told that everything they’d seen while bound and fettered, all of the shadows that he believed were the reality, were all
inconsequential? What would the prisoner feel, what would they say, if they were told that they saw only falsities before, but now they are seeing correctly—now they are seeing the truth? If we pointed in the direction of each of the figures passing by and asked the prisoner what each of them were, and to name each of them, what would the prisoner say?

The prisoner would be puzzled and disoriented and at a loss and would eventually say that the shadows they had spent their life seeing were the truth and the reality, and the figures passing by were just lies and illusions. And if the prisoner were made to look at the firelight itself, its light would hurt their eyes, and they would flee from those who freed them and run toward the shadows, believing that they are the truth and that they will save them.

And if the prisoner were grabbed by their rescuers and dragged out of the cave, up the rough, stone path and into the open air and the sunlight, how would the prisoner react? They would be angry at having been grabbed and dragged against their will, they would be nearly blinded by the light of the sun, they would be dizzied by the wind and the many new smells they were experiencing—and they would not be able to recognize that everything they were seeing and experiencing were real and true.

After some time, the former prisoner would still see shadows, but they would have adjusted to their new circumstances

Nowadays you have to actually be a person and respond to your emails and do your marketing and reply to people, and community-building is slower. You almost have to think of yourself as a tailor at the mall or a medium-sized sandwich place. There’s lots of boring stuff and then you get paid.

I think it’s easy to look at “big” social media artists who just drop an image, bare minimum text, and think “I can do that too.” But those artists RELENTLESSLY built communities around their work at a time when Instagram was boosting hashtags to everyone. A combo of luck, skill, and consistency.

There’s a certain subset of artist who just makes art and posts it without engaging meaningfully with anyone, then complains when nobody cares about their art. I actually get it. We all want to be drawing. But you have to meaningfully engage with people outside your bubble. Social media is social.

Justice for Destiny poster.
A beautiful 22 yr old Mi’kmaq woman is on the poster. Destiny was a 22-year young Indigenous Woman
Destiny sought medical treatment in 2023. Her pleas for medical help were DENIED by several Nova Scotia Health doctors, resulting in her preventable death
Destiny was delayed life saving treatment for 8.5 hours, as she lay dying, alone because her family was REFUSED access to her
Hospital staff labelled her a "drug addict" although no drugs were in her system. SYSTAMTIC RACISM played a crucial role in her death
Destiny's family diligently advocated for Nova Scotia Health to help her several times. Each desperate plea was IGNORED
Remembering Destiny and honoring her life is why we are marching today
We refuse to let her become "just another statistic" with no accountability. Our goal now is to change the way Lnu people are treated, promoting self advocacy, ensuring hospital guidelines and policies are not Just to protect staff, and most importantly spreading awareness of Cryptococcal fungal meningitis
Destiny's death was 100% preventable
Indigenous females are 2.5 times & Indigenous males are twice as likely to die from AVOIDABLE CAUSES, then non-Indigenous people.
I in 5 Indigenous People face discriminatory or racist behaviour from someone in the health care system.
