I’m glad someone with an audience noticed this too, I’ve been saying it for years.
Photo from 2020 of a blonde white woman shouting outside of a Baskin Robbins. In one hand she is holding a tiny American Flag, and with both is carrying a large placard reading “GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH.” She is protesting masking regulations in Covid era outside of a store that seems to be open for business.

The zoom depixelated it a bit, I can’t make out the signature. Someone thanked her “for help!” Looks like a Seattle Storm WNBA basketball.
Closeup of basketball in background of Nancy Mace’s lair/set. It appears to be a WNBA basketball for the Seattle Storm, the legend reading:

“To Congress(illegible) Mace
Thank you for help!
(Illegible signature, appears to be underscored with VEG)”

The basketball is mounted and encased in a box of clear material.

“Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee.”
The infamous photo of then-NJ Gov Chris Christie sitting on a public beach he had closed to the public in one of many Republican-forced government shutdowns. His summer home led to the shore, but the actual shoreline was officially closed, enforced by police to other residents. At the time, he had a 15/81 approval/disapproval rating among NJ residents. The pictures did not change this. He is with his wife and son on individual beach chairs, the couple looking up to the camera’s far right corner at a different news helicopter. c July 1997

You might be so called upon, because he’s still on X and, uh (TW Antisemitism, radicalized violence, etc)
(TW: Antisemitism, racialized violence)

This is a screengrab of user WASBAPPIN of X; who for years was a well known hater of socialists, Palestinians, and Syrians. His tune has changed, lately: instead of funding schools, his account name is now ANTI-White People Aktion; the familiar dog is replaced with a blond anime woman wearing a TOP GUN hat, and writing the following hideous post:

“Friendly Reminder that Jews are racial enemies of liberalism and exist solely due to Roosevelt’s Folly.”

I don’t wish to guess the context of this post.

This is the front cover of Run DMC’s Raising Hell album. The alt-text will explain the minority leader’s sacrilege in strongly editorial terms, I just wanted to post the good if I have to see the bad.
Run DMC - Raising Hell (1986) album cover.

The photo is an action shot of the two rappers walking toward the camera, at a -15° angle or so, in an empty apartment, with a full length window closed behind them. DMC, on the left, is mid-stride with his hands in his puffy winter coat. His oversized glasses sparks a bit of lens flare as he mean mugs us. On the right, Run tilts his head down slightly, appearing in mid conversation. He has a small bowler hat on, and also has his hands in his pocket. The purple tint with saturated low contrast gives the image a powerfully grimy feel, and the mild blurriness makes the image move, like the duo was going to literally walk through the LP jacket right at you. It is one of the great American album covers of all time. To the left of DMC appears a column of justified text in green capital letters:

(Overline)
RUN (break)
DMC
(underline)
The album’s title appears vertically, top to bottom.

Over a year ago, Hakeem Jeffries and Corey Booker of the two held a sit-in to protest the GOP’s budget. That picture shows them sitting in front of the steps to the Capitol Building, both wearing black outfits (HJ a long sleeve T shirt, CB a button-down), with their hands clasped between their knees (wide apart in the textbook manspread style). HJ to the left is expressionless and half-squinting at the camera, as CB is speaking to someone just off the viewer’s left. Both are wearing lava mics with large fuzzy windscreens, in addition to HJ’s 3” Christian cross necklace. Medium closeup, flat depth of field.

The photo was reposted for propaganda and fundraising purposes; rendered in digital black and white, there is green text invoking the discussed RUN DMC cover, instead saying

DEMS (break)
Are (underlined)
Raising Hell.

A Parental Advisory sticker is affixed to it to Booker’s knee on the far right.

I’m sorry to be the one to tell you. RUN DMC may be passé, but they were once thought to be extremely hard and cool. These twerps, not so much.

What even is an appropriate photo for the story of a family annihilation? The house with tape? A collage of the smiling dead? Another ghoulish day in this gun happy, domination obsessed country. I think the point of the famous meme has more to do with dehumanizing black victims of violence, which:
Post from Reverend Jesus “H” Christ
“MEANWHILE, WHEN IT’S A BLACK GUY”
Picture is a YouTube link of a horrible picture of KC Chiefs coach Eric Bienemy prowling the sideline diopter with his son’s mugshot, caption: “Wife of Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach shot by couple’s son.”

All over a tasteless photo of a family annihilator smiling with his beautiful victims.

It is a genuinely wild story from this person’s genuinely wild life, read all about it. (The Congressman was a post-Nixon Democrat who only served three terms before either the Reagan Revolution or Ascam did him in, take your pick.
Born Rita Carpenter, her father, C. Hunt Carpenter, was a millionaire from an insurance business and natural-gas investments. She worked for the Republican party, but in 1976 married Democratic South Carolina Congressman John Jenrette.

John Jenrette was convicted of taking a bribe during the Abscam investigation in October 1980. Rita Jenrette appeared on the Phil Donahue Show, and her husband called in live to join the conversation. At his trial, she testified in her husband's defense.

Subsequently, she alerted authorities to $25,000 she found in her husband's closet, saying it was part of the Abscam money.

She gave an interview to Playboy that appeared in the April 1981 issue, accompanied by a nude pictorial. The article's revelation that her husband and she had sex on the steps of the U.S. Capitol during a break in an all-night House session caused a hoopla. (The comedy group Capitol Steps takes its name from this escapade.) She claimed that the couple was still "happily married" at the time the Playboy pictorial was photographed, although they had separated in January 1981, before it was published (they were divorced shortly thereafter).Boncompagni Ludovisi and Jenrette married on May 27, 2009. To commemorate the marriage with Jenrette, the prince commissioned the re-creation of a fragrance originally devised for one of his ancestors.

The couple lived in his 16th-century family home in Rome, called the Casino dell'Aurora, or sometimes Casino Ludovisi, which they renovated. She resided for years on the premises and opened it to the public, giving tours and hosting charitable events there. She has promoted new research on the history of the property, as well as the creation of a related scholarly resource, the Archivio Digitale Boncompagni Ludovisi.

To settle an inheritance dispute, an Italian judge ordered Villa Aurora to be offered at auction in January 2022 for $531 million, but it attracted no bidders. It was to be put up for auction again at a slightly lower price. It contains the world's only ceiling mural by Caravaggio.

On 20 April 2023, Jenrette was ordered to vacate the Casino Ludovisi by order of a court of law as part of a ruling that she failed to maintain the historic property after a wall collapsed and blocked a nearby street. She declined to leave, forcing the Carabinieri to evict her. As she fled through the back door of the villa, she tripped and broke two ribs and her clavicle. As of May 13, 2023, she was staying in a villa

Couldn’t put it better myself! Thanks Andrzej Żuławski, Director of Possession, one of the most astonishing, gripping, troubling, ambivalent, sui generis films ever made. Head over to Sam’s direction in Cinema Paradiso and explain some things, and thank him for me.
Over a still frame of a young Sam Neill curled on a bed in agony, clutching his chest with both hands, there is this text:

“Sam Neill is the glue holding the film together. Isabelle Adjani comes and goes and appears and disappears and makes a big bang every time she appears, but Sam had to be there all the time and hold the pieces together, by being there all the time.”

A screenshot from maramarietta dot com quoting Andrzej Żuławski’s director commentary track (c 2008) for the film Posession (1981). Żuławski passed in 2016.

This “Wonderwall” slander is the cheesiest cope of all time, man; bad look for bad taste, all of yas. It’s a happy song! They’re happy! “Bohemian Rhapsody” is way harder to sing! You want them to sing John Martyn or “Teardrop” while we’re at it? Anyway, my permanent rebuttal:
“Wonderwall” with nearly 3 billion streams on Spotify. The song surely helped move a large portion of 22+ million copies of its parent album, including a staggering 5.7m in the UK (see next slide).Chart from Wikipedia showing the best selling albums of all time in UK. Oasis’ “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?” is tied with Adele for 3rd place with >5.7m copies sold. For context, Queen’s Greatest Hits tops the chart with >7.5m units, with a population of around 70m people.

Still from the film L’année Derniére á Marienbad (1961, d: Alain Resnais. In English: Last Year at Marienbad). A black and white wide angle of statues, triangular trees, and perfectly spherical trees perfectly lined along a walkway on the grand lawn of a country estate. Several bystanders are on the walkway, casting long shadows at 4 o’clock. The objects themselves cast no shadow. Brilliant movie.

I’m being a killjoy and I’m sorry but he is trying to be sneaky:
On the religious right, a new generation of activist theocrats has convinced the rank and file that life under any Democratic administration will become a Fourth Reich and have turned Bonhoeffer into a political avatar. Who would not wish that a person we so greatly admire would have seen the world as we do?

Except that MAGA enthusiasts such as author and radio personality Eric Metaxas have transformed Bonhoeffer with little basis in fact. Ignoring biographical features he doesn’t like and inventing new parts he needs, Metaxas has recast Bonhoeffer’s story as a battle cry for conservative Christian activism in every American presidential election since the first Obama administration. He goes to such an extreme as to suggest moral equivalence between the political assassination of an American Democrat with Bonhoeffer’s involvement in a plot to kill Hitler.

Metaxas’ delusionally dangerous portrayal prompted 86 members of the Bonhoeffer family to release a public letter on Oct. 18 condemning the distortions and misuse of “right-wing extremists, xenophobes and religious agitators … whose intentions are diametrically opposed to Bonhoeffer’s thoughts and actions; ranging from Project 2025 — the Heritage Foundation’s proposed program for Trump — to the German right-wing extremist Björn Höcke.”

The superlunatic fringe has tried to recast Bonhoeffer as an exemplary hero of what to do with non-religious Democratic leaders. I’m convinced this stuff influenced the Hortnans’ killer:

Charles Marsh, Dec 9 2024 Religious News Service (sadly the author then goes on to make clearly antichoice statements, but nonetheless, this is a very useful shorthand to this situation, and what’s more is I believe his outrage and fear of this development is genuine).

Silenced for truth
There’s a popular reading of Sálo’s enigmatic concluding scene - of two of the Fascist soldiers dancing together homoerotically as they ask each other about the women they’ll return to in Italy once the prisoners are dispensed with - that Passolini was pointing out that the horrors of the previous two hours, whilst the dreams and plans of powerful people, was nonetheless enthusiastically carried out by low paid henchmen, and that said henchmen were still walking amongst his fellow Italians today (1972) with few regrets. Passolini was mysteriously ambushed before the film’s release, and all further discussion of the film centered on the (genuine) horrors and torture depicted therein. While too late for the victims of the Fascists, there is one idea that may have saved Passolini, and the left wingers of Italy, that we should examine and embrace today.

Anyway, yell at me, not the OP.

Gray stripey cat, crooking his front leg on a couch arm rest. He looks at the camera with impossible poise. The caption says “sup.”

This is a very old cat picture from the I can haz cheeseburger days. In truth, being nostalgic for the earlier era of the internet is silly. Racism and misogyny abounded on bulletin boards and chat rooms before social media moved in and made everything worse. Bush was about to be reelected when I first laid eyes on this gentleman, for God’s sake. But there is something to be said for the era where it didn’t come with you on your phone, where there were scores of sites you would check at the start of your day, of maintaining an rss feed. When the internet would cross over into real life it was usually very hilarious and rare. And there was something genuine about meeting a sweetie on the board, or from livejournal, or what have you. It wasn’t the only option available to you and you could meet someone based on interests and values and looks were not the end all be all. And the cat pictures were magnificent.

Young(ish) John Gorman, in a wool jumper and turtleneck. Thin hair grown long from a point at the very top of a very sloping head.John Gorman, middle aged, still with a face for radio but extremely darling. Almost entirely bald, this is a man who asks after your family with genuine interest at the pub, who remembers the people and events of your life even two years when last you met. He put in a good word for you at the firm who hired you, almost certainly pointed you out to your now wife or husband. Everyone in the village has a story about him exactly like yours. Looking spiffy in yellow trousers, a red waistcoat, an expensive black petticoat and suede creepers.John Gorman, the greatest of the great elderly faces. All smile lines and crows feet. Totally bald, smooth, there are cue balls that aren’t as white and smooth as this. The godfather of scores of men and boys for three generations. Tan winter jacket and pants lightly clashing with navy and light blue vest and collared shirt. Off the hard stuff, still sneaking cigarettes more than he should. You’re happy to be alive to see this.

Before cat ownership: I love cats when they’re cute, but I’m not just going to take photos of everything they do whenever I see them. Eight years into it: the cat was curled up facing one way, but then I got up, and when I came back he was curled the other way. This is the momentous news of my day.
Gray cat, perfect specimen, asleep on a bed with white sheets that are highlighted with green branches, curls in a perfect Fibonacci swirl because he is an amazing genius, he literally does this in his sleep. He is resting his head against a crumpled up weighted blanket, a lighter shade of green that has elements of pea soup green. He is facing the right side of the photo, with the magnificent tail beneath him, mighty and majestic paws cuddled in to his belly.Same perfect gray cat but now facing the other way, indicating he broke the laws of physics by rotating the earth vertically so as to embody the yang to the previous photo’s yin. His paws are over his eyes now to better shield from light, teeth exposed to shine the light back at the source to weaken it. Truly the greatest organism to ever grace Earth, a time which shall henceforth be known as Laszlo Era (2023 - forever, for he will be the first cat to never die).

I know you must be thinking, “This man is a fool, for he’s giving away these images of the Godhead for free!” It may be that I am a fool, but no one is this foolish. Please send checks for $4,999.99 plus local taxes at once, you unworthy swine.
