The last week has been pretty rough. My shower tray is leaking, so that needs repairing. My car tyre got a slice, so went flat when driving home at 2am and the RAC were going to be 3-7 hours to recover me. I’m working my usual rest day this week. And that’s not my worst week of 2026!

After 33 years together, my parents finally got married this weekend, and I was honoured to be the one to walk Mum down the aisle AND be best man. I was very busy and by the end, very drunk. But here’s some photos of Mum and Dad looking gorgeous, with me thrown in because I was there.

Had a blood test yesterday. The HCA went fishing for my vein once he’d pricked me. I now have a niiiiiiice big reminder of it in the crook of my elbow.

I’ve had a really really slow start to my morning. Cup of tea in bed with the dogs cuddling, and Smooth Radio on. Yes, I am middle-aged. But this was the best start to a day I’ve had in a long time.

There is, however, one benefit that I can see. Given we are slowly turning into a more cashless society, those who are homeless are struggling to find people with cash to give. This deposit scheme will provide a way for homeless people to get some money. I have seen happening this in Germany.

Yes, I am aware of the success of the Pfand system in Germany. I have lived there. But this has been in place for many years and has significantly improved recycling compliance. We already have that compliance. This is an extra tax and inconvenience.

So a bottle of Cola, delivered to my home by my supermarket, will cost me more to buy (paying the deposit), and rather than just popping it into my convenient recycling bin at my home, paid for by my council tax, I have to make an additional trip to a supermarket to recycle it to get the money back.
