My latest is out in BU Law Rev. It argues that the tension inherent in counseling clients as a defender is a testament to the power of the counseling space and urges ways to turn that contradiction into a strength. Check it out and the thoughtful response from @ahoagfordjour.bsky.social

The criminal legal system is a system of racial and social control. A sibling spat inside a home over a cellphone became a criminal charge thanks to a neighbor's call to the police. 18 yr old asylum seeker is arrested, detained, then picked up by ICE in the Lynn courthouse. Unconscionable. #mapoli

I was privileged to partner with @caitlinlglass.bsky.social and @robertchang.bsky.social on this amicus brief. We are hopeful to shed light on the biased injustice that is felony murder liability.

There's still time for Biden to clear death row
The president never fulfilled his promise to end the federal death penalty. Taking action now could blunt Trump's vow to go on another spree.

Mark Osler and I explain what President Biden should do to mitigate the damage from the Hunter pardon. Helpfully, it's what he should have already been doing -- grant clemency to all the people who deserve it, not just his own son. www.thenation.com/article/poli...

One of the articles I'm most proud of is now out in the world as the lead article in the latest volume of the Minnesota Law Review thanks to its wonderful editors. Co-authoring it w/ Rell Carter fundamentally altered how I think about the production of knowledge. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

The nomination of Pam Bondi, a death penalty enthusiast, for AG further corroborates that federal executions will resume rapidly unless Biden commutes the sentences of the people on death row.
