Very much so. Her husband it seems was a jealous, controlling prick who put the kibosh on her career. She should have owned the 1970s.

Saw this only recently - ta, Amazon Prime. Ingrid Pitt is utterly, celluloid-meltingly stunning in this. Never understood why she didn’t become a colossal star, but hearing about her ratbag husband here explained it. This is one of Hammer’s finest.

It’s a solid 5 from me, and four of those are for Dennis Price. The early 70s feel like Hammer’s ‘Bates Phase.’ He does at least come good on his third swing. Very much looking to that episode.

Me too, and so few players ever got the reference. Also, whenever I played pool with my brother it was ‘and if everybody’s doin’ it….’ between each shot. Again, no one else got it.

We won’t need artists and creative professionals in the monoculture. The old work will be fed into the gaping maw of AI and endlessly shat out, focus-grouped, consumed and then fed back in. It’s a doom spiral 🌀 of garbage. Ever-decreasing circles. Unless we reject it. Support independent artists.

One would have thought that after Covid, evolution would have made it impossible to cough violently into the air without putting one’s hand over one’s mouth, but a quick trip to Tesco showed me that nature, ah…ah..found a way.

RIP Eva Marie Saint. At the grand old age of 102. The Oscar winner for ON THE WATERFRONT exuded chic cool in my favourite Hitchcock NORTH BY NORTHWEST as Eve Kendall. Her dialogue scene with Cary Grant in the dining car full of innuendo and hidden meaning is still a winner #filmsky #moviesky

Eva Marie Saint, star of North by Northwest and On the Waterfront, dies aged 102
Landmark roles were in 50s classics directed by Elia Kazan and Alfred Hitchcock, before going on to play Superman’s adoptive mother in later life Eva Marie Saint, one of the last survivors of Hollywood’s golden age of the 1940s and 50s, has died aged 102. Her screen work spanned six decades: Saint made her screen debut opposite Marlon Brando in On the Waterfront, starred in Alfred Hitchcock’s celebrated thriller North by Northwest, and in one of her last screen appearances played Superman’s adoptive mother Martha Kent in the 2006 superhero film Superman Returns. A family spokesman said on Tuesday that Saint had died of natural causes at her home in Los Angeles. Continue reading...

Sad to have learned that John Irvin passed recently. I haven’t seen this, but an 18 certificate? In this day and age? With Fred Astaire? Is it absolutely fucking terrifying?

Talking Pictures TV are showing "The Beast Must Die" at 21.05, tonight. Despite the laughably shonky beast, it's still a decent horror. And its concept of a big-game hunter summoning a group of strangers to his island, in order to hunt whichever one turns out to a werewolf, is long overdue a remake.
Wealthy big-game hunter Tom Newcliffe (Calvin Lockhart) rocking a black leather jumpsuit with a gun in his hand. There's a burnt-out helicopter behind him, but if you think that's going to put a dent in Tom's day, then think again, brother, 'cos this cat's a stone-cold killer!

A joyous treat for cult horror film fans tomorrow night on @talkingpicstv #thebeastmustdie (1974), the only film with both a ‘Werewolf Break’ and a werewolf played by a German Shepherd in a wig. I wrote about it for @screammagazine.bsky.social many full moons ago. Huge fun.

I’ve seen the pitch document for The Day Today and it’s about a paragraph long. I paraphrase but: “This show worked brilliantly on the radio and we know what we’re doing.” A world in which that is a viable pitch document is something that we surrendered without a fight, which is so sad.

The monthly arrival (all the way from the US) of Premiere, especially those beautiful big pre-1991 issues on that quality paper, was absolutely fundamental to my obsession with movies. Read them all cover to cover. A great education.
