For people thinking, what's the big deal about the 4% cut in global oil production coming next week, that's the scale of the 1973 OPEC crisis and 1979 Iran war oil crisis. Each followed by a major recession. Prices and supply are global. And global oil stocks are already gone. It's a calamity. 1/

ICE just spent $1.5 BILLION to purchase two massive prisons in California it was already using for detention, in an effort to avoid oversight from the state, which has been pressuring the private prison company that owned them. CoreCivic will continue operating the facilities.
CoreCivic said it anticipates that the sale of the Otay Mesa Detention Center in San Diego County and the California City Detention Facility in Kern County will bring the company an estimated net proceeds of approximately $1.1 billion.
The sale closed on July 2, according to a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, with the federal government paying $739.2 million for the 1994-bed Otay Mesa facility and $732.6 million for the newly-opened 2,560-bed California City facility. The two properties were sold under separate purchase agreements, signed and completed on the same day.

In 1770 Crispus Attucks was the 1st martyr of the American Revolution. Son of an African father & Native American mother, he'd liberated himself from slavery & joined the multiracial ranks of northeastern mariners b4 sacrificing his life, as G.W. Williams put it, “on the altar of a people’s rights.”
Etching depicting an artist's rendering of Crispus Attucks in jacket & tie, with the inscription "The just man shall be in eternal remembrance" & "The brave soldier of the Revolutionary War, 1770." Made in 1897, housed in the Library of Congress.

Even moreso than he LIKES the Fed, Roberts acknowledges the importance of the Fed to his top interest group, which is corporate interests. Same with mail-in voting: It would hurt Republican voters most, and Roberts needs them. All "good" opinions from him are best for his preferred Americans.

this is simply no longer a winning electoral strategy anywhere — not in PA, not in NYC, not in the USA, not on earth. the people of the planet are rejecting the us-israeli war machine. the only way this politics can survive in democracies is by subverting the will of voters and democracy itself.
