The ad is sponsored by Charles T. Munger, Jr., a well-known Republican donor in California
Ad sponsorship shown - Charles T. Munger Jr. is the top funder for a mailer claiming Gavin Newsom is threatening California democracy for countering Texas's gerrymandering by holding a special election

It brought me back to this piece I published in @lareviewofbooks.bsky.social about Alfredo Jaar's great (and brave!) artwork, which he performed during Chile's terrible times, asking everyday people about their happiness: lareviewofbooks.org/article/alfr...
A billboard in Chile displaying Alfredo Jaar's subversive artwork in Chile during the junta. The billboard reads, "Es Usted Feliz?" or, "Are you Happy?"

More sad proof of the decline of the humanities: a story about the fate of creative labor under corporate shenanigans is framed as nostalgia and intergenerational warfare for (nonexistent) resources:https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2023/07/the-old-guard-is-out-at-penguin-random-house.html

Picture of the year. The perfect punctums of marble, "chandelier," curtain rod, black marker squiggle and the need for mold remediation of those boxes.
