MAD ANGLER PRESS @retroanimechris.bsky.social · 18h

Due to popular demand and from several inquiries elsewhere, Mad Angler Press has finally finished our general 4K/HD scan of one of the earliest Legend of the Galactic Heroes doujins in our collection, CHESSGAME FINAL. Released during the Winter Comiket of 1987, this will be a unique treat!

HAPPY 19th ANNIVERSARY, GUNDAM 00!! I spent a few months in Tokyo in late 2007, and this, "Beautiful World," and "Crank That (Soulja Boy Tell 'em)" were the top three songs I heard then. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUOg...

Django Wexler’s the Shadow Campaigns (5 books all in all). Crossdressing lesbian knight heroine, swashbuckling action, engaging dark fantasy world building with a good amount of angst and payoff

It makes sense in a dystopic way but yeah it’s still dumb.

And before someone chews me out for the AI bit, the workshops are mandatory. This is the only one whose dates worked for me.

Swallowed my misgivings and signed up for an AI in Finance workshop only for my supervisor to chew our admin out for even telling I could sign up. She then gave my spot to someone else :’)

Gundam XARX-ZERO's starts in airing in April! Felt that this would be the case, given that there were no gunpla announcement pertaining to it for the Winter season, leaving April blank as to what's next. Also means that Rogue Orbit actually comes first in terms of release order. Interesting.

I love anime. I love anime fandom. I love conventions. I have for decades. But this gave me a glimpse of what Crunchyroll wants for anime: loud, shallow, focused on consuming what's popular now instead of developing a deeper appreciation.

Back to reading the first Hathaway's Flash novel, I like that Tomino keeps returning to the idea in his books that mobile suit displays are firmly computer generated images based on information from exterior cameras, rather than direct feeds with UI overlays as typically portrayed in animation.

Gawman opened the left and right rear displays that surrounded his cockpit
to keep careful watch of his left and right. The scenery rushing by became a
slightly brighter field of vision than reality, and was displayed around Gawman.
As the name “reality display” suggests, it projected real sceneries
surrounding the pilot. On top of that, information like targets appeared on top.
It was an artificial image of reality from the pilot’s perspective created by
computers using videos from multiple cameras. It even recreated the dawn
faintly lighting up the horizons as the pilot saw it.
“My targets are...”
Gawman pulled up a map of Davao on the lower right display of his multi
monitor, and overlaid the targets that had been inputted before launch.
Cross marks were displayed over two sections of the map, and one was the
Tasaday Hotel. The cross marks were linked with the images generated by the
actual sight display, and also to the sight system for the machine guns and
missiles.
In short, if the computer system that generated the images were destroyed,
the machine known as a mobile suit would become no more than a puppet.

Ribbon Hero is such a beautifully made movie. It’a more of a love letter to Tezuka and Takarazuka than a straight up adaptation of Ribbon no Kishi. I got emotional with nostalgia watching this.
