hundreds of billions went into this

google search of "how many letter ps are in greenery", gemini responds:

There are 2 letter "p"s in the word "greenery".

g-r-e-e-n-e-r-y

google search of "how many letter rs are in cookie", gemini responds:

There is 1 letter "r" in the word "cookie" (c-o-o-r-i-e). Wait, let me double-check that spelling.

There are actually 0 letter "r"s in the word "cookie" (c-o-o-k-i-e)! It looks like I accidentally slipped one in there. My mistake!

It is possible that Mr. E, the eponymous mysterious book from Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, is inspired at least partially by the Voynich Manuscript, a famous medieval book that seems to describe unindentifiable wondrous flora in a completely incomprehensible language.

In Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Mr. E (the eponymous mysterious book) is an encyclopedia on flora and fauna, most of which seem to only exist inside of him and not be based on preexisting Yoshi's Island species.
Each of his pages is one or more illustrations, surrounded by blocks of unreadable text. The text appears everywhere inside the game world as well, and seems indecipherable on purpose.
The Voynich Manuscript is a mysterious book from the 15th century, most of which is seemingly an encyclopedia on various wondrous flora, none of which has ever been identified conclusively and is believed to be at least partially fictional.
In addition, the text is written in a unknown language that has eluded decryption ever since the discovery of the manuscript, making the entire book incomprehensible. Note the circle and hook/loop aesthetic appearing both in Mr. E and the manuscript.

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, the Toad NPCs have originally been envisioned to be highly nonstandard with odd cap shapes and unique colors. In each successive iteration of the game, their designs have been made to look more "normal" until the logical conclusion.

Continuous Standardization of Toad Designs in Successive Iterations of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
[Toads in prototype version have odd cap shapes, nonstandard colors and exaggerated faces. In the GBA version, the colors have been made more standard and the caps have been normalized. In the 3DS version the Toads are just recolors of the regular Toad design]
Note that Toad NPCs have been shuffled around between versions so there is not always a 1:1 correspondence between which Toads use which designs.

Extremely rare officially licensed 1992 "Mariovania" mug. While appearing to be a regular Super Mario Bros. mug, the background is actually the starting area of Castlevania II: Simon's Quest. What Mario is doing in this location is not explained.
