Our floors may have been covered entirely with lead paint. If I had a time machine I'd go back and put micro plastics in their pierogis.

Everything I'm learning while in the buying process for an 1880s house is "houses are usually like X. Except in very old houses, in which case the opposite is true"

The Why Cheap Art? Manifesto, Bread & Puppet Theater, 1984
the WHY CHEAP ART? manifesto
PEOPLE have been THINKING too long that
ART is a PRIVILEGE of the MUSEMS & the
RICH. ART IS NOT BUSINESS !
It does not belong to banks & fancy investors
ART IS FOOD . You cant EAT it BUT it FEEDS
you. ART has to be CHEAP & available to
EVERYBODY. It needs to be EVERYWHERE
because it is INSIDE of the WORLD.
ART SOOTHES PAIN !
Art wakes up sleepers !
ART FIGHTS AGAINST WAR & STUPDITY !
ART SINGS HALLELUJA!
ART IS FOR KITCHENS!
ART IS LIKE GOOD BREAD!
Art is like green trees!
Art is like white clouds in blue sky!
ART IS CHEAP!
HURRAH!

New lunch spot in the landmark center is delicious, vibes were impeccable there and at the downtown library, pretty sure everyone said hi to me
The Landmark Center is seen in downtown St. Paul from across Rice Park, with the Ecolab building also visible. The rain glistens on the brick road in the foreground; the sky is cloudy.

The live show was a bolder, deeper version of what this album is: a cohesive piece of narrative art. It melded the best aspects of theater and live music (and, I'd argue, the cinematic approach of a music video) into something I couldn't tear my eyes away from.

It feels kind of inevitable in a tiered society that's ostensibly merit based, desire for children to move up in social class, but in a way that almost sidelines the kids themselves

And that exceptionalism, whether it becomes something the students have to work through as adults or something that they never outgrow, spending the rest of their lives believing God chose them to run for government and make evangelical ideals into laws, is probably not great for society in general

cab.etc @cabetc.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
There are also similar values: parents and a minority of educators who believe they know better than broader, government groups what their students should learn. Imo, this is a rejection of society, to silo off your children from their peers

The distance between these students' experiences and "normal school" is something that they and others take pride in, but it also means they don't have a framework for what they might be missing out on that "normal school" students get.

This quote could have been taken verbatim from a talk at the Cinci homeschool convention I attended, yet it's likely from a student, parent, or admin at this alpha school: “your child isn’t learning anything at school, because their lessons are paced for the slowest kid in the room"

I was surprised to find in this essay about an expensive private school that focuses on AI echoes of the language used 15 to 20 years ago in the world of homeschool education I then inhabited.

The sentences handed down today in Texas are a threat to the possibility of a democratic society. The prosecution is rife with constitutional violations, but 30 years in prison (more than anyone for January 6) for moving some magazines? 50 years for those not involved in even planning the protest?

It's mind-boggling how these can feel safe to the drivers. Even if you're not around pedestrians, that gigantic blind spot can hold so many hazards. And the A-pilllar blind spot makes such a difference. My 2005 4runner was so much better than new Chevys, and it still felt sketchy.
