#booktok 📚🐦‍⬛ This is another of my illness-audio comfort listens. I have to say though that it wasn't *quite* comfortable or rather that it was comfortable in the same way you might feel looking at old snapshots of your 10-years departed German Shepard over a cup of tea.

#booktok 📚✨Sick last week, needed a comfort listen from Hoopla. This was perfect: a well-told story of really bad people doing really bad things to get revenge on other really bad people. Swords and Blood Galore. Chicken soup for my soul. c2lem.com/books/Best_S...

#booktok Ice by Jacek Dukaj 🧊✨📚 Locus best translated. Its 1200 pages and 12? of those pages an essay about how hard the xlation was. Started strong but I lost the plot half way through and trudged through to the end as a mission. Very ambitious book that I failed at. c2lem.com/books/BIP_/I...

A tiktoker last week, breathlessly described The Count of Monte Cristo as "swashbuckling" and I knew she watched the Guy Ritchie movie and assumed it was the book. The best thing about reading the book is that I know that tiktoker is all hat no cattle. My thoughts: c2lem.com/books/BIP_/T...

📚✨ Book Review ✨📚 The Teleportation Accident by Ned Beauman 🌀😂🕵️‍♂️ A wildly farcical, sex-obsessed sci‑fi noir about a tram-phobic set designer chasing a “near miss” across continents as the holocaust burns in the background; hilarious for me, too odd for others. #bookreview c2lem.com/books/Telepor...

📚🦉The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon 🔍🗝️Read this for bragging rights, so here I am bragging, but I do not have any profound insights into what this novel meant. But do know that you will need to read this book at least twice simply to comprehend. #booknotes c2lem.com/books/crying...

#booksky #litrpg I am more than an hour into "He Who Fights With Monsters", which Amazon seems to be positioning as a successor to Dungeon Crawler Carl, yet so far, not a whiff of anything funny. What gives? How much runway does this story need? At least it was free....

My version of it is: DJT does requires the least effort: if all he has to do is show up and/or talk to people or sign something it can happen. If it impacts his golf, tv or his cheeseburders then its a no go.

1.
“She held out her hand. ‘My name is Neera Agarwal... How would you like to leave this shit town and that bitch of a bartender behind you forever?... How would you like to be a spaceman?’”
That quote is a good vibe-rep for a book (& origin story of it’s hero) #booksky📚🪐#scifi

An AI-inhabited (“haunted”) house sits in the high California desert and contains the preserved corpse of its famous architect and owner; the architect’s will permits only one person, the house’s archivist, to visit the mausoleum/house for a total of five days each year; this is Rose/House.

Reading War and Peace just took a turn: I switched to audio. Its much easier to consume this way b/c its harder to skip over the Tolstoy war reporting / editorializing. And since the bloviations are so extensive its easy to miss important bits in your impatience. #booktok

Here's where some good samaritan football expert on bsky could step up and explain to the casual fan how it is that either Eagle's pass rush is superhuman or Chief's o-line is so deficient and yet made it all the way to the Superb Owl.

Things making me sad: 1/ My mom & aunt were (extremely) lucky to be living in a similarly beach-adjacent mobile home park in the OC. If this had happened to them it would have been devastating.

3/ My pump-bottle of good conditioner, never did pump and I was dipping the plastic tube a few times each shower in order to retrieve the fluid. Today I was able to pour the remaining conditioner into an empty (working) hand soap pump bottle and my life is 10.6% better.

2/ In comparison to _Bright Sword_, I finished _Empire of Silence_ yesterday and I enjoyed it, will continue the series; however it did not have 34 pages of pure poetic fluid prose at any point in the book; lets say there were stretches of 10 pages. #booksky 📚🪐
