The exterior of the new Hollywood Burbank terminal is where it's at, with a sweeping canopy and plaza featuring benches and native plants. Inside, its an utterly straightforward, workaday building that will get the job done at SoCal's 4th busiest airport. byerussell.substack.com/p/the-glamor...

The goal for Alaska with its new premium 737 MAX 10s is to close what it considers a “key product gap” in its offering for high-end West Coast fliers. Expect to eventually see the planes in Los Angeles, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle. www.flightglobal.com/strategy/202...

Alaska will fly two 737-10 layouts: Premium in the Aurora livery with 159 seats, including 12 lie-flat suites and 12 premium economy seats. Standard in the Chester livery with 188 seats; that's 10 more seats than on the 737-9s.

Alaska Airlines will expand its long-haul network from Seattle faster than previously planned. The airline now forecasts 15 long-haul routes (Europe, Asia, etc) by 2030, up from its previous guidance of ~10. It flies or has announced 6 to date (NRT, ICN, FCO, LHR, ATH, CDG).

Alaska, and every other airline investing in premium, is the number of economy seats is dropping. That not only drives higher premium revenues but also higher economy fares, good for the bottom line but not necessarily for travelers. It's the K-shaped economy in a metal tube.

The suite — pun intended — of new offerings from Alaska brings the company's premium product in line with its competitors and positions it to, as Minicucci aims, be a fourth global US airline that can compete with the likes of American, Delta and United.

New from Alaska: business class suites and premium economy seats on its 787s and select 737-10s — yup, MAX 10s with lie-flats — plus Hawaiian A330s all coming in 2028. It's part of CEO Ben Minicucci's aim to turn the airline into a “premium global carrier." www.flightglobal.com/strategy/202...

“When your grinding, having somewhere to sit that’s comfortable and quiet, and you can have a free cup of coffee — or a pancake — it really takes the edge off if you’re flying 35 times a year.” Don't forget the view of planes, @jonostrower.com.

Lounge design, despite the deserved critiques of mediocre food and meh spaces, *is* getting better even if the raison d’etat of airport lounges remains as a calm(er) respite from the chaos of the concourse. byerussell.substack.com/p/welcome-to...

Why the smaller transatlantic growth plan? For one, Delta doesn’t have the new single-aisle A321XLR — nor does it want them — to play with that American and United do. Another could be aircraft availability. Delta is scheduled to take 8 A350-1000s in 2027 but the plane faces delivery delays.

Edward Russell @byerussell.com · 25/09/2026
Delta is taking a conservative approach of transatlantic travel next summer. Unlike competitors American and United, it has only announced 3 new routes (more could come) in the market. 📍 Austin-Paris 📍 Boston-Venice 📍 Detroit-Athens All are destinations it already serves.
