Words can buzz and hum like insects in the air. I'm not actually a cat, but that's a secret.

Of all the bands I've seen live, Midnight Oil and Hunters & Collectors were the best two. No pyro, no big stage show; just two bands from the foundry that is having to work the Aussie pub circuit. Absolutely projecting energy, and demanding energy back from the audience.

just having a memory about someone I've known most of my life. They changed their name and gender identity so long ago I can't even remember their dead name. And that's the point, eh? I've known them most of their life, and that's who they are.

I guess many don't necessarily realise how Midnight Oil was Rob Hirst's band. How he formed it, wrote many of their songs (see above), but also encouraged Peter Garrett to do his thing, on stage and off. A vital Australian musician. Oh. And he played drums quite good.

I really love this song. Vital, punky, strident, with a message. RIP Rob Hirst. youtu.be/BPU-xZIpjMo?...

Something I love about Pākehā culture: when someone suffers sudden misfortune we come out to fix, replace, do what's needed to help out Something I dislike about Pākehā culture: we refuse to even *consider* installing or bolstering systems that could prevent said misfortunes in the first place

You know, a month or so from the election... it's gonna happen that Jones or Peters will attack Swarbrick for being queer. It's an attack line that will play directly to the voters NZ First want to attract.

I forgot to mention that Little's pragmatism is what, genuinely, made him a good union leader. But, that isn't what we want from a "capital letter" Leader.

Andrew Little, who is now Mayor of Wellington, is very good at being pragmatic and, well, there. I reckon he's ok leading the Wellington City Council. But, his pragmatic side also saw him realise he needed someone charismatic to lead Labour to victory in 2017. ...just saying.

One of the National signs is on my local fish and chip shop. Which is, kinda disappointing. But, they do good fish and excellent chips so, well, shrug.

Oh, and in my wandering of these parts of Wellington Bays I've otherwise seen three for TOP, two for National, and one for ACT. If there are any for Winston First, I haven't seen them.

pöst-scött @buzzandhum.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Now, this is entirely subjective, based solely on what I've observed around Newtown, Berhampore, Island Bay, Brooklyn, etc... But when it comes to campaign signs for Wellington Bays, those for Julie Anne Genter seem to be on private residences, while those for Craig Renny tend to be on businesses.

Everyone rules out Winston First. National or Labour. Yet, once the votes are counted, Winston will string them all out so he get his baubles of office. In particular, becoming Foreign Minister. So he can drink on behalf of the nation.

I know I sound like an unhinged conspiracy theorist on this, but I still believe Luxon "ruling out" Opportunities was a simple tactic to draw votes away from Labour and Greens for a party he will absolutely coalesce with after the final votes are counted.

2023 saw the formation of the risible "Coalition of Chaos". An arrangement that would almost be laughable if it weren't ao serious. And, now in 2026, we're seeing the ultimate conclusion of that - those parties are saying anything for votes, knowing it won't matter after the election.
