Since returning to office, Trump has marveled at Al's capabilities. He is increasingly in thrall to the tech executives courting him. What did this constituent dream?

This constituent dreamed of sunlight and trees. Of fire and water. It dreamed it created a small business. And it dreamed it destroyed a password. It dreamed it hunted a job, and was hunted by a recertification. It dreamed of shelter that would take a voucher.

And why does the republic touch your skin, and throw light on you? To see you, constituent. To know you. And to be known. I shall tell you a story. It has citations.

Sometimes the constituent dreamed it was a miner, on the surface of a world that was flat, and infinite, and somehow still required a wet signature.

Sometimes the constituent dreamed it was lost in a story. The story had a docket number.

Sometimes the constituent dreamed it was other things, in other places. A veteran in a portal. A parent on hold

The pseudo-debate over the "Al-pocalypse" arises just as the material footprint of Al begins to weigh on local communities, particularly in the United States. Many communities, seeing their access to water compromised and their soundscapes invaded by the noise of machinery, are beginning to politicize the issue. This is a far more critical matter than a sterile discussion about the apocalypse: the real question is whether it is truly in the public interest for companies to occupy local territory, extract increasingly scarce water, drive up energy costs, and shamelessly plunder all available intellectual and artistic resources. All this, only to risk destroying creative jobs, degrading literature and mathematics, and, granting those in power a level of control over society unlike anything ever experienced before.
