*i don't care what the item is, only that i have made something i am proud of enough to wear it on a day that i would normally wear my nicer clothes.

setting the goal now. on christmas day this year i will wear an item of clothing i made myself. skirt, shirt, dress, i don't care. i will give it a serious, honest go and do it properly and in accordance with all the 'best practice' info i can find, and i will make it look good!

i'm not kidding, i'm looking up how to make a tailor's ham as a beginner project and taking detailed notes on every tutorial/guide i find on everything from stitches and seams to pattern drafting and structure. 😵‍💫 i have some dresses i love but i wear rarely to take care of them. i could copy one...

you know when sometimes something strikes your brain and you realise you're going to get super into it? happened to me earlier this year with photography, but Dressmaker has done it for actual sewing and garment making irl.

Hey everyone, I'm really in a bind. I was just told earlier today that my job will be terminating me on October 13th, exactly one day before my upcoming requested paid medical leave to recover from bottom surgery. I intend to fight this in court, but I could really use some help in the meantime.

I'm thinking of the countless attempts to shut down and any all discussions about patriarchy and misogyny by invoking abstract charges of "gender essentialism", or accusing feminists of thinking all men are inherently evil. The reality is actually much worse---women's pain isn't seen as real.

stoppppp fucking repeating the marketing lines about "there are alternatives", "their hands are tied", "most people won't be affected". you are a mark. you are a fucking mark, don't give them your ID documents!!!!

and guess what industries a lot of those fascist billionaires work in! all these fucking laws are happening because tech companies want more data to sell to keep increasing their profits, and fascists/politicians want more surveillance and to keep the donations rolling in to their pockets.
110
Evelyn @buneevee.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
all those lobbying groups that aren't apparently tech things? all those 'concerned parents' groups? the average person has no fucking money to buy a politician, where do you think these groups get their money from? it's all wealthy right-wing funded sockpuppets, it's astroturfed completely!
110
Evelyn @buneevee.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
"oh but the laws" politicians don't know or understand shit! their job is not to make decisions for themselves, their job is to do what lobbying tells them! tech companies (like, y'know, DISCORD) are lobbying for this, pouring money into getting what they want passed into law! they want users' IDs!

so many people are using discord we will have no practical way to actually say how many people are denied the automatic age verification or mis-assigned because of the videogame servers they're in or whatever. the "90%" claim is totally unverifiable even if it was not complete horseshit!
110
Evelyn @buneevee.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
credit card info can be stolen, THEY ARE LYING THAT THEY DON'T RETAIN IT, and many adults cannot afford a credit card in this economy and use a debit card instead! giving your government ID to Apple or Google or some fucking data harvesting "agekey" app is still a privacy violation and breachable!
110
Evelyn @buneevee.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
discord has 690 million total accounts created. "90% of users" means that some 70 million people minimum will be affected. 1000 times the massive data breach last year! this is an unimaginable goldmine for identity theft. it WILL be stolen! also! the "alternatives" are still privacy violations too!
110
Evelyn @buneevee.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
also, in the same post they say that UK and Australia users won't be able to assigned an age group automatically. because they trained the age-assignation system on those countries so they are the control group. that's MILLIONS of users locked out of it.
110
Evelyn @buneevee.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
the people believing discord's "90% of people won't need to verify age" lie is fucking exhausting. they have been caught lying multiple times about this already! "your documents are deleted immediately we promise" -> 70,000 IDs stolen because they were not in fact deleted.

As I said, I'm really enjoying it, but this novel is a tight ~350 pages, it's focussed and that's fine but could have added such details without bloating anything. It could benefit from engaging with moments it instead skips over, and dedicating more detail where it serves characterisation.

Shizuka and Lan see Katrina running towards them right after her violin is stolen and pawned and she physically fights off her abusive 'roommates'. And we just SKIP the dialogue? Skip what Shizuka sees? Skip what Shizuka feels? This scene was IMPORTANT for her flaws and virtues as a character!

Evelyn @buneevee.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Katrina wakes up in an unfamiliar room after getting her injuries healed by space-magic and just... the room is missing. What is the room like? This is the guest room in Shizuka's house, we could learn a lot about her and Katrina from even a little detail! A sentence or two please!

Evelyn @buneevee.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
But there are moments where it just... skips over things that I would like to have detail on. This is a very detail-light book at times, places and spaces and the things that could tell us more about characters are sometimes absent in spots I'd find interesting.

Lan Tran's last name especially gets some very funny moments, and her literally-alien logic and priorities can be very funny, especially regarding her donut shop (though her mindset also hits when the book plays it straight for drama too).
Excerpt from Light From Uncommon Stars, by Ryka Aoki. It says "How could she know what the Trans were doing?"Lan Tran dismisses the idea of talking to the violinist she's pining after, saying, "Anyway, what would we talk about? Music? There's no time for silliness. We have a donut to calibrate."

House of the Underworld has been delayed again, I wanted to read a paper book today, so on the train I took Light From Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki and devoured half of it today. I'm really enjoying it! It's compelling, it's heartwrenching at times and makes me laugh when it wants to.

For 5e my brain would have fucking burned out wayyyyy earlier, but DH is a breeze for this kind of thing. I did all the prep on Monday, and that was pretty light. My players absolutely loved the session, I've still got it! Dark Heart of Andaluria is such a fun and interesting frame too.

Evelyn @buneevee.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Ran #Daggerheart again for the first time in months, using an original monster-within-a-werewolf (the werewolf of werewolves, kinda) as the hunt in Andaluria. I've missed running the game so much, it's SO FUCKING FUN!!! Six players, a three hour session with a break for dinner in the middle.

It's not the best book I've read this year, but it doesn't have to be the best. Sometimes it's okay for a book to be a little mid; the bestseller lists are filled with slop and trash and this book is neither slop nor trash, women authors should be allowed to be a bit mid sometimes, it's fine.
110
Evelyn @buneevee.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Women got more important as the story went on, I still think Rukh could have been a girl and Rao could be a woman. But Bhumika slaps, I like Malini, the initial feeling of "this book is about men too much" did lessen as I kept reading. All in all, I liked it! And I will pick up the sequel.
110
Evelyn @buneevee.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Instead Santosh is just a foil of Vikram who is less controlled. Which is fine, but the story leaves some political themes and commentary on the table by not having any woman fulfil such a role. That's my biggest criticism, honestly, Pramila is not enough by herself and the book could be sharper.
110
Evelyn @buneevee.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Santosh could have been a woman, for example. The excessive violence and fanaticism, the extreme dedication, the need to prove himself through violence beyond what the men around him can condone; that could have been a woman attempting to prove her loyalty and value to Chandra's empire.
110
Evelyn @buneevee.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
There are always women who negotiate with patriarchy, who bargain with it and dedicate themselves to upholding it, and who truly believe in it. Their absence in the story makes the 'feminist' reading feel less politically sharp, to me? This absence made it feel less realistic/interesting.
110
Evelyn @buneevee.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
I also think that there need to be more women in the story who are true believers in Chandra's misogynistic regime. Pramila is the only woman who enforces it and she does so out of personal revenge against Malini for guiding Pramila's daughter to sedition that lead to her execution. It's not enough.

Emotions could have been more ambiguous, the fade-to-black on the first kiss felt unnecessary since they obviously weren't going to have sex out of nowhere there. The romance felt a little thin, at times, it didn't capture my heart and imagination the way my favourite written romances do.
110
Evelyn @buneevee.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
There are areas where I feel like a little bit more indulgence in detail would have been nice, but it's a 530 page novel, it's already quite long. The final section of the story was a little anticlimactic, it could have chosen to escalate further and that would have been more exciting.
110
Evelyn @buneevee.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
I finished The Jasmine Throne! I'm glad I didn't drop it in the first 150 pages when it was annoying me, because it just kept getting better as I continued. It's not perfect, it could have been less concerned with overexplaining things at times. I would have liked longer descriptions of places.

*Lies of P, not Lies of Pi 🤦‍♀️ but yeah, like, learning to parry against bosses like Markiona, Lumacchio, Arlecchino, Green Monster, Laxasia and Nameless Puppet, without ever using cheese strategies/easier options for any of them, has made it shockingly quick to get to grips with Sekiro.

i know i'm late to the party on this but Sekiro is a difficult game 😵‍💫 buuuut it took me less than 15 minutes total to go from first attempt at Gyoubu Oniwa to beating him in like 4 attempts 🎉 (i think NG+ Lies of Pi with dlc a few months ago may have prepared my parry skills for this. >_< )

It is our sacred queer history that the AIDs crisis "wiped out a generation of gay men", as many as 20% were HIV positive at the height of the crisis. What's ignored is that the rate for trans women suffering and dying from HIV/AIDs was 49x higher. It was actually us that got wiped out. 1/4

If this man's claim of having a literature PhD is even true (and he should not actually post proof of it online because that would dox himself, I do not talk about my own PhD on here for that reason) then it is professionally embarrassing to be this shit at understanding storytelling! 🤣🤣

It's ten thousand times better than the merica slop oorah alpha male godzilla cgi-fight movies (featuring magical disabled indigenous girl and her magical indigenous village that must be 'protected from the outside world') Legendary is pumping out. This guy is sooooo pathetic.

Why would I not listen to the voices of the actors onscreen who literally LIVED THROUGH THAT EVENT a couple of years before they recorded these scenes? You lose more from switching that film to english than you could ever gain from knowing the spoken words. That film moved me to tears, I love it.

I often can't stand dubbing, american VO direction is often just plain worse than the original and characters having american accents can feel completely out of place. Why would I watch Shin Godzilla dubbed into english? It's a movie set in Japan about the Tōhoku earthquake-tsunami and Fukushima!

Am also a monoglot, but... Firstly, how is he so slow at reading subtitles in english that he can't see the performances? No wonder this man doesn't read! Secondly, "you get nothing out of hearing a performance in a language you don't know" EXCUSE ME???? The original performance is right there!

i wish it had more confidence in the reader keeping up with what's happening, in how it successfully expresses the character's feelings. so it can stop overexplaining directly and flatly in a way that makes me roll me eyes and say "stop it!". and i wish it had fewer scenes from men's pov!!!
120
Evelyn @buneevee.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
this book is not classed as YA but it feels very YA-y in those moments of "what if the reader doesn't understand the obvious", which is frustrating because otherwise the prose and characterisation and dialogue are solid! i am enjoying it more now and will stick with it now. just...

"here is a not-very-subtle coded conversation between two covert rebels who are trying to figure out whether the other is an ally. now here is two sentences of Lord Rajan's internal monologue explaining the entire previous page of dialogue". i got it, it was not complicated or subtle to an adult!
110
Evelyn @buneevee.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
things between them feel like they're progressing too fast emotionally and the conflict over "you're manipulating me" feels like it resolves too fast. still too many of the other scenes are men, i didn't need another Ashok scene or Lord Rajan scene! and the author is still overexplaining things too!
