Shizuka and Lan see Katrina running towards them right after her violin is stolen and pawned and she physically fights off her abusive 'roommates'. And we just SKIP the dialogue? Skip what Shizuka sees? Skip what Shizuka feels? This scene was IMPORTANT for her flaws and virtues as a character!

Lan Tran's last name especially gets some very funny moments, and her literally-alien logic and priorities can be very funny, especially regarding her donut shop (though her mindset also hits when the book plays it straight for drama too).

A couple of photos I like from the last few days. Lesbian flag coloured roses, and a cluster of white flowers where i wanted to focus on the buds in the centre of the image and let the others blur. The weather is too hot but the flowers around here are lovely right now!

In Warframe I themed my Garuda's colours around Persephone (GO) Putting these colours on the invincible bloodsoaked killing machine that can tear out people's blood and throw it as a blood-bomb to kill crowds of enemies... it suits her.

Murder is Persephone's love language. For a moment at this I was hoping Persephone would get her head around some things and make some progress, but she still agrees too much with Demeter about the Marks and mortals, she hasn't realised those thoughts were programmed into her deliberately. 2/?

Also "freshly diced melon and honey, sunset-skinned pears" is just so yummy and made me crave some fruit. It's a very food-themed chapter with the hunt at the end and Lydia being a girl who was just marinating chicken a moment ago and says "Getting a lot of marinating chicken vibes from this!" 3/?

I especially loved this bit and the last sentence of the paragraph in particular, it made me flop back in my seat and giggle and kick my feet a little bit. It's been lovely to reread Dorley again, but evocative, engaging, beautiful new writing is such a joy to dive back into! 2/?

I put the chapter-by-chapter wordcounts from the wiki on a graph. They get pretty long!

Scatterplot of the wordcount of each chapter in Alyson Greaves' series 'The Sisters of Dorley'. The typical chapter wordcount increases partway through book 1, then increases substantially in book 2. Late in book 3 and throughout book 4 there is more sudden variation between each chapter, with book four featuring both the highest wordcount chapter (at 43,608 words in a single chapter) and also the lowest wordcount since chapter 2 of the second book (at a mere 13,943 words).

Before I forget! Last year I read more fiction and non-fiction than ever before in my life, so this year I'm going to track it. The last day of January starts in an hour, perfect time to post the first monthly thing tracking that ^_^ 1st of February I'll be starting The Persephone Effect!

A calendar of months in 2026, currently with most months left blank. January is filled with three book covers, 'Nevada' by Imogen Binnie, and books 1 and 2 of Alyson Greaves' 'When You Fell From Heaven' series. These are the three books the poster has read this month.

i read The Pink Diamond by @trishusband today, fun little short story and i liked the extra short story Girl Dinner too. Short and sweet! Made another couple of jokes, this time both with direct quotes from the story (screenshots of my kobo xP).
