An additional note re:the "No More than 3 Bites" rule: It's a GREAT *guideline*! Having a guideline allows you to BREAK THE RULES -- on occasion! And u can still keep track to ensure your dog is HEALTHY. Additional guideline: Bites are no more than 1 inch in size. #DogSky #DogTraining

Some tips to help keep #dogs healthy: - NO. PUP. CUPS. I know, I know. But WHY do u think your dog needs a cup of sugar daily or weekly? (Or at all?) - NO treats w/sugars & garbage ingredients. If u can't pronounce the ingredients, don't buy it. - Have a food-sharing rule: No more than 3 bites.😉

Article below this post is a GREAT lesson in crate training—only corrections: 1. "Door stays open for first 7 days." It may need to be LONGER, & article details that but also said this. 2. Frozen treats don't help w/training; they're nothing more than TEMPORARY distraction. Important highlights:

Warning signs that crate time is making things worse

Some signals mean stop, not push through. Biting or bending the bars, chipped or broken teeth, heavy drooling, frantic pawing, or escape attempts that leave scrapes, all flags that the crate has become a source of panic that will not fade with more sessions. The humane move is to open the door immediately and switch to crate-free management, baby gates, a dog-proofed room, while you rebuild a neutral relationship at the dog's own pace.

This is horrible, because it means that a group of bad dog owners are getting together and probably sharing BAD IDEAS on how to "control" their dogs (pro tip: You don't *control* a dog [it's the biggest error in #dogtraining], what you do is teach #dogs things you want and REWARD them heartily!!)

Minor correction to the below: It's VERY possible to train even THE MOST problem #dogs w/out an "insane amount" of $$ (granted, person below says "can"). Most dog training is logic: Encourage ur dog, DON'T yell/punish for what u don't like. No "it's OKs"/"Good boys" to anxious or problem behavior.😉👍

German Shepherds are great #dogs... & one i see MORE people eff up than ANY other. They're VERY sensitive‼️ Punishments, No's, using your body or pushing them to get what you want are NEVER a way to train but FILL a GSD with MAJOR anxiety. PLEASE use Positive Reinforcement only. #DogsofBlueSky #puppy

Today is Olive’s 🫒Gotcha Day! 13 yrs ago,she crawled out from under bushes alongside a busy NorCal road &jumped into Mom’s arms! A warrior princess who saved herself- she was probably dumped there.Only dirt & twigs in her tummy,vet said.Very dehydrated. She fought for her furever home! Love, Ruby 🩷🐾

GREAT trick I taught someone at the dog park today: Li'l dog, Fiat (yup), was standing on a picnic table barking at me as we approached. Barking turned to growling. I told owner "Lean into me, shake my hand, call Fiat." In "clearing" me for Fiat, she IMMEDIATELY calmed & was my friend! #Dogs #DogSky

#DogTraining 101: Do NOT lock #dogs up for protecting their home! This AWFUL advice is on a VETERINARY site! Here's the problem w/it: -Dogs smell prey 3 km/mi out. How is closing blinds helping⁉️ -Your pup is PROTECTING your home; TRAPPING him/her where he cant do his job *will* 💯% create anxiety!

Avoidance: the act of preventing an individual from engaging in unwanted behaviors. This technique protects distressed dogs and cats from exposure to adverse behavioral stimuli that will make them worse. Protection is the first treatment step. For example, a dog barks at people seen outside the window. Closing the blinds or sequestering the dog at the back of the house avoids the stimulus that triggers the barking response.
