![Hold a leash with TWO hands, across your hips, fists closed, one palm to each hip, NO SLACK in the leash. (For smaller dogs🐶, lower the hand closest to the dog, but keep the fist closed and against your body.) If your dog can swing in front and behind you, there's too much slack in the leash.😉 NOTE: This is not about keeping your dog tightly against you; it's MORE about ensuring your dog feels your body movements through the leash. With no slack, and the leash against your body, your dog can feel the leash's tension, thus allowing him/her to know where you're going. This is leading your dog on a walk; and when you lead your dog on the walk, the dog learns to follow; when they lean to follow, they learn to trust; when they learn to trust they CALM and are MORE APT to LISTEN! (This is NOT "alpha-ing" your dog -- that is NOT a thing.
