A History Of Lincoln City And So-Called Long Ball Football

A History Of Lincoln City And So-Called Long Ball Football
Lincoln City have been labelled long ball merchants this season, classed as 'anti-football'. Stephen Eustáquio, who twice feigned injury trying to get an opponent punished for something which was not a foul, was delighted 'football won' after his deflected strike against us this weekend. There is an irony in a man who twice tried to deceive an official, criticising an opponent's tactic, but we need to get used to it.

The four Lincoln City League Two loanees have all been involved over the past fortnight, with Zane Okoro finding form in front of goal and Zach Jeacock producing two impressive performances between the posts. There have also been regular minutes for Oscar Thorn at Colchester United and Oisin Gallagher at Barnet, with the latter demonstrating his versatility across three consecutive starts.

Lincoln City Confirm Departure of Long-Serving Defender
Adam Jackson’s six-year stay with Lincoln City has come to an end after the defender left the club following the mutual cancellation of his contract. The agreement allows the 32-year-old to become a free agent, meaning he can join another EFL club outside the transfer window. Jackson will continue training with City while he searches for the next opportunity of his career.

Tony Mowbray has warned his Blackburn Rovers players that they must be prepared for a battle when they visit Sincil Bank on Tuesday evening. The Imps return home following Saturday’s impressive 1-0 victory at Bolton Wanderers, our first Championship win of the season. Chris Cohen described that performance as a “proper Lincoln City away performance”, with City demonstrating the resilience and organisation needed to withstand sustained pressure before taking all three points.

The Hungarian international faces an uncertain deadline day after rejecting the offer of a new contract at Ewood Park. Toth’s existing deal runs until 2027, leaving Blackburn open to selling him now if an interested club meets their valuation.

Lincoln City Issue Matchday Experience Update Ahead of Blackburn Rovers Visit
Lincoln City have issued an update on the changes made at Sincil Bank (The ProAmpac Stadium) following feedback from supporters after the opening home league fixture against Portsmouth. A significant amount of work was undertaken at the ground during the summer, encompassing huge changes to the matchday experience. While the club are proud of what has been delivered, they accept that some elements will need to be refined as the new areas are used by supporters.

Portsmouth are reportedly planning one final attempt to agree a deal for Lincoln City target Tyrese Shade before tonight’s 11 pm transfer deadline. The Imps have been strongly linked with the Burton Albion attacker during the summer, with reports suggesting that at least one bid has been rejected. However, Championship rivals Portsmouth also retain a longstanding interest in the 26-year-old and intend to reopen talks with Burton today.

On this day in 1999, John Reames revealed that his unusual spell as Lincoln City chairman-manager would end when the season finished, with Phil Stant identified as the man who would replace him. The announcement came at a supporters’ forum, where Reames surprised those in attendance by declaring: “I will not be here in 12 months.” He was not preparing to sever his association with the club immediately, but he had decided that the 1999/2000 campaign would be his final one in the dugout.

The summer window for the 2026/27 season closes at 11 pm on Tuesday, September 1, meaning clubs must provide their lists by 11 pm on Wednesday, September 2.

On This Day: Red Card, Pitch Invasions And a First Lincoln City Win At Meadow Lane For 104 Years
Meadow Lane had not been a particularly happy hunting ground for Lincoln City. In fact, when John Beck took his side there on 23 August 1997, the Imps were looking for their first league victory at Notts County in 104 years. They got it, but only after a game featuring nine yellow cards, a red card, torrential rain, a pitch invasion and a six-minute stoppage.

‘Pretty Dominant’ – Tom Shaw Reflects On Lincoln City Defeat
The big day at Sincil Bank was spoiled as Portsmouth ran out 3-1 winners against Lincoln City, and head coach Tom Shaw expressed his disappointment at the result. It was the biggest crowd at the Bank since the 1983 Milk Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur, as the new-look ground got its first outing. However, Portsmouth were in no mood to play patsy, and raced into a two-goal lead.

Record Breakers: Imps 3-1 Stockport County
Lincoln City made it a club-record 20 games unbeaten with a 3-1 victory against Stockport County this afternoon. In a game that was a lot tougher than the scoreline suggests, a stubborn Stockport caused City a few problems in the second half, before a late Imps double wrote the names of the 2025/26 Imps into the history books. City made three changes from the side that beat Exeter City 1-0 in midweek, with Ben House, Tom Bayliss and Adam Reach dropping to the bench, with Reeco Hackett, Ivan Varfolomeev and Ryley Towler coming into the side.

Stockport County boss Dave Challinor gave an honest assessment of how he saw yesterday's game, breaking down the goals from both their perspective and ours. City led 1-0 for much of the game courtesy of Jack Moylan's ninth goal of the season. The poke home from close range looked to be sending us 15 points clear, only for former Imp Jack Diamond to grab a leveller.

Lincoln City took another giant stride towards promotion to the Championship by extending the lead over third-placed Bolton Wanderers to 13 points with ten matches left to play. On an attritional evening in Devon, City knew a win would open a bigger gap over the Trotters as this was the game in hand we've been holding, like an ace up the sleeve.

Lincoln City Win At Cardiff Might Only Be Worth Three Points, But The True Value Is Priceless
There are moments in every fan's life where you just can't understand or process the feelings your club, in my case Lincoln City, gives you. I was lucky (and unlucky) in my early life as a City fan. I saw the tears in 1987 as we dropped out of the league, and the unifying power of success as we returned a year later on the crest of a wave.

Lincoln City moved to the top of the League One table with a 2-0 win at Cardiff City. Honestly, just writing that feels ridiculus, but that's what happened. League One Promotion Run-In: Who Has It Worse?
City sit ten points clear of Bolton Wanderers, with a game in hand. The Trotters have 12 games to play, we have 13, and lurking below them are Stockport and Bradford. Cardiff City will feel their 11-point gap is enough to hold off two of the chasing pack, even if one catch them, but there are a lot of points to play for right now.
