Former Lincoln City midfielder Joe Morrell is set to return to Portsmouth as a first-team coach, a year after injury forced him to retire from playing. According to BBC Sport, the 29-year-old will join John Mousinho's coaching staff at Fratton Park, filling the vacancy left by Zesh Rehman's departure late last year. Roy McDonough might not be a household name, but his book, Red Card Roy, explains how he was branded more aggressive than Vinnie Jones, and that he may have almost signed for Lincoln City. McDonough's book isn't new. It came out in 2012, and I've only just got around to picking it up in the last week. It made a refreshing change from all of the rubbish top-flight memoirs you read, and Lincoln City get a fair mention.

40 years ago today, Lincoln City lost 4-1 at home to the worst team in the Football League; their manager apologised, and I decided this was how I wanted to spend my life. October 5th is my Imps birthday. Other people might trace their devotion to a cup upset, a promotion or being lifted onto someone's shoulders to watch a winning goal.

Lincoln City might have changed shape since winning promotion to the Championship, but the numbers suggest our approach with the ball has remained remarkably consistent. Eight league matches give us an early indication rather than a definitive verdict, particularly when comparing them with an entire promotion campaign. However, the emerging picture is interesting: we have adjusted our structure, retained much of our attacking identity and encountered opponents who use possession differently.
