“A child said What is the grass? fetching it to me with full hands; How could I answer the child? I do not know what it is any more than he. I guess it must be the flag of my disposition, out of hopeful green stuff woven.” — Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass #BigThicket #NaturePhotography #Photography

A sharp macro photograph taken in the Big Thicket National Preserve. A single, vibrant crimson leaf with dark, weathered splotches is cradled horizontally between several thin, vertical green stalks of river cane. The leaf’s deep red hue provides a stark, dramatic contrast against the soft, out-of-focus green foliage of the forest background. The delicate way the leaf is suspended in the undergrowth, captures a quiet, singular moment on the forest floor.

Marina di Pisa is full of stones, rocks, and pebbles, and quite fun to photograph with your favorite wide-angle lens. I made do that day with a kit lens. …beautiful low-traffic beach! #blueskyartshow #stone #eck #marinadipisa #landscapephotography #fineartphotography #beach

Photo: A wide-angle shot of stones on a beach; large tree branches lay across the ground, cutting the frame at a diagonal from lower right to upper left, on top of the stones.

What was built in defiance of nature now answers to time. Mother nature has a long memory🌿. The Forest Abides. #ForestFriday #AngelinaNationalForest #EastTexas #Texas #UrbEx #AbandonedPlaces #AldridgeSawmill #Photography #EastCoastKin #Forest

Exterior view of the old Aldridge Sawmill in the Angelina National Forest - East Texas, showing a tall concrete ruin rising out of the woods, its lower walls covered in colorful graffiti while vines, moss, and trees press in around the structure.

A wide, atmospheric shot of the skeletal remains of the Aldridge Sawmill in the Angelina National Forest. Old concrete walls are being peeled away by massive vines, and young trees grow directly through the collapsed roof. It is a literal industrial Ouroboros

Interior wall at the old Aldridge Sawmill in East Texas, covered in layered graffiti and opening through a broken doorway into the woods, with bare ground, stained concrete, and a large tree rooted against the far wall.

Close view at the old Aldridge Sawmill in East Texas of a rough concrete wall with faded graffiti and an empty window frame, looking through to another weathered wall streaked with moss and light.

The smaller squares, are just further away #Photography

Monochrome photograph of the support structure of a walkway taken at the side of a river. Horizontal and vertical wooden beams create squares with a brick wall on the right. We are looking across these squares which form a concentric effect and seem to fit inside eachother, even though we know they are the same size.

A high-contrast black and white photograph taken in the Big Thicket National Preserve at Martin Dies Jr. State Park. Several clusters of bald cypress trees with delicate, bare branches stand in perfectly still water, creating near-flawless vertical reflections. The background is a dense, ethereal white mist that isolates the trees and the small silhouettes of birds perched in the upper canopy.

A detailed macro photograph taken in the Big Thicket National Preserve. An upright mushroom with a pale, dome-shaped cap features natural dark markings that uncannily resemble a "sad face" or a theatrical mask. A second, dark-red, withered mushroom sits in the foreground among twigs and leaf litter on the forest floor.

Stumbled upon an ancient colony of Yellow Trout Lilies - Erythronium Americanum. There were hundreds packed into a tiny 100 sq. ft. area. Due to their very slow spread, this patch may be older than me #BigThicket #SpringEphemerals #TexasWildflowers #Texas #EastTexas #NaturePhotography #Photography

A close-up, low-angle shot of three Yellow Trout Lilies blooming among fallen brown leaves in the Big Thicket National Preserve. The bright yellow petals curve elegantly backward, revealing delicate orange-yellow stamens. The foreground shows the distinctive green leaves with mottled, trout-like brown spots. In the background, a pinecone sits among the leaf litter, grounding the scene in a diverse forest floor. Found in Martin Dies Jr. State Park / Big Thicket National Preserve.

A beautiful and brightly colored Amanita muscaria grows out of flat fir needle-covered ground. Its white and roughly textured stipe stands about six to eight inches tall.
