From "THE PREPARATION OF PROGRAMS FOR AN ELECTRONIC DIGITAL COMPUTER 2nd Ed 1957" ia903205.us.archive.org/14/items/pro...
Programming cannot be taught in the abstract, or learned without
practice, and any book on programming must use the order code of some
particular machine, real or hypothetical. Fortunately, the order code of
the EDSAC lends itself well to the purposes of a book on programming,
being fairly straightforward and relatively easily memorized. Moreover,
the EDSAC is a single-address binary machine, and a recent survey by
M. H. Weik (for reference see Bibliography) shows that, of the types of
machine currently in use, about 50% use single-address order codes and
about 60% work in the binary scale. The order code of the EDSAC con-
tains a few of the minor inconsistencies and complications invariably
found in the order codes of real machines; the order codes of hypothetical
machines especially designed for teaching may be free of these inconsist-
encies and complications, but are inevitably somewhat artificial in con-
sequence. One advantage of using the order code of an established
machine is that it is possible to draw on experience of programming and
of the teaching of programming. The first two chapters of Part 1 of this
edition are based on courses of programming given in this laboratory over

Just a reminder of the advantages of MOS circuits over ferrite-core memories (from CDC CYBER 170 COMPUTER SYSTEM SYSTEMS HARDWARE HANDBOOK bitsavers.trailing-edge.com/pdf/cdc/cybe... )
MOS INTEGRATED CIRCUITS
The MOS integrated circuits are silicone microcircuits with capacitive characteristics that
make them suitable as high density storage devices. Manufacturing techniques and operat-
ing characteristics of the MOS circuits give them a number of advantages over the ferrite-
core memories. These advantages apply also to ECL circuits in comparison to discrete
components.
• Lower cost
Faster operation, on a system basis
• Lower power requirements
• Higher reliability
• Higher densities, as low as one-seventh the space of core memories

"In every object, its previous forms must live on in some rudimentary way", part II - #1, digital collage
A surreal digital collage showing the lower half of a female model’s face with red lips and hands touching her cheeks. The upper part of her head is replaced by a large image of Jupiter from NASA’s Juno mission, with swirling cloud patterns. A smaller image of Jupiter’s moon Io overlaps the planet near the center. The background is minimal and light gray, contrasting with the black space above the planet.

A rule of thumb for tsunamis is that in open ocean, they move at similar speeds to commercial airliners. If you're ever curious how long it would take for a tsunami to get from one place to another, look up the duration of a similar-length flight.

Apep. JWST. It's weird. Just look at it. From GO 5842: What lies beyond the inner spiral of Apep? Principal Investigator: Yinuo Han flic.kr/p/2riELBn
A nebula with a bright star at its center. The nebula has three distinct layers, and the pattern in the layers repeats in a way that implies there are more layers outside the image boundaries, though they would be faint. The shape of the nebula is something like nesting yin yangs, with the center smallest one bright and dense, shining, smooth and golden. The middle one is orange and textured like a sherpa blanket. The largest, outer shell is fainter, and red like an ember. Its texture has softened along with its dissipation into space. There are some small stars speckled around the image, and one annoyingly bright, spiky one that's got too many colors because of the way the light spreads from point sources through the telescope's optics. A pale haze of grayish cloud also covers the scene, but it is sheer and translucent.
