the world doesn't really want you to be miserable, that's just a side effect of it being super-optimized for profit maximization. being whimsy won't really help against this, but it's better than being indifferent.

there is also a causation fallacy: things that actually directly reduce fertility (education, healthcare, social security and overall women empowerment) don't require growth. they can and have been delivered through targeted policies even in far less wealthy nations.

ecological impact is driven by consumption, not headcount. a smaller wealthier country has a far larger material footprint than many times larger but poorer nations. the average euro and american has a footprint 3-8 times larger than the sustainable level estimated by planetary boundaries research

phones, software and AI are not immaterial; smartphone manuf. requires a dozen mined minerals with steep ecological and human cost. also, the claim that ai doesnt use water is misleading: cooling towers evaporate massive volumes of water, and the AI race has fueled a fossil (gas) generation boom

efficiency and cost gains thanks to technology always has caused more consumption than before, not less. this is called jevons paradox; cheaper solar panels dont replace coal plants, but more often enable even more power hungry apications. this is why global energy use has rarely, if ever, declined

Israel wants to sue the New York Times over its story on rape against Palestinians. Earlier, Israeli soldiers were caught sexually abusing a Palestinian detainee. Israelis rioted in protest of their arrest. Their charges were dropped. @premthakker.bsky.social broke it down. 🔗: zeteo.com/subscribe

has this experience made you question the current structure of the government of the US? the fact that your own representatives do not answer you for 131 straight days seems very much indicative of the US Not being a representative democracy... i would start to make posters or something if i were u

this does not mean you cannot fight them, hold them accountable or name them as evil. its just drawing lines that you know you shouldn't cross. you should not torture, you should not rape, you should not mutilate, you should not exterminate children, you should not sterilise a whole population

nico @bsky.nicocalu.net · 29/04/2026
depravity is what happens when a group of humans dehumanizes another. by doing this you are engaging in the same morality that the zionists do. the only way to break the cycle of violence that comes from dehumanizing is to categorically refuse to dehumanize in return.

nico @bsky.nicocalu.net · 29/04/2026
human dignity is not a condition or a reward, it is a permanent status of every human. the view that human dignity is up for debate and can be judged is exactly the view that colonizers and genociders hold, that allows them to do their crimes with no consciousness.

nico @bsky.nicocalu.net · 29/04/2026
not all of them but the population can be characterized as such yeah
100
nico @bsky.nicocalu.net · 29/04/2026
targeted resistance against oppressors is fine, but thats very very different from indiscriminately mutilating an entire population. the Haitians did not sterilize all of the french in the island.

nico @bsky.nicocalu.net · 29/04/2026
yeah

nico @bsky.nicocalu.net · 28/04/2026
man calling someone a zionist for saying you shouldn't wish for the mass sterilization of a population is just crazy. you can be both an anti-zionist and also care a little about human dignity... don't fall into black and white thinking.

nico @bsky.nicocalu.net · 28/04/2026
i think you should resist the impulse to annihilate an entire population regardless of their crimes; they should lose some moral rights but discarding human dignity for an entire population without proportionality is just wrong and you know it. complicity is not guilt and human dignity must remain.

In interviews, migrants in Northern France often cite the departure from Dublin as a reason for wanting to seek asylum in the UK, particularly if they had already been refused protection in the EU. However, it is unclear how big a role this played in their decision-making.

people should be allowed to do whatever they want here. why? because this platform: - doesn't amplify inflammatory comments with opaque algorithms - lets users block people via lists (much more effective) - is not controlled by a psychopath and that all means that hate will die out on its own.

maybe an unpopular opinion, but i don't think that the line "nobody elected elon musk" is going to stick in anyone's mind (except on those who already opposed trump to begin with) if you want to convince people that elon musk is bad for the country, maybe giving solid arguments or data is better

its just two different ways of expressing the same thing. the thing is, you can get the architecture from the full codebase, but the other way around is more complicated (think of reverse engineering a program)

i think people watch streams mostly for reasons other than "wanting to see videogames being played", so idk. there are very subtle differences between telling someone how to play a game, and maybe giving some advice (and of course, if the streamer specifically asks for advice or not)
010
nico @bsky.nicocalu.net · 20/01/2025
yeah i have to give that one to you; if you go to somebodys stream to tell then how to play (when the streamer is not asking for advice anyway), you are just being annoying. but if you tell that to a speedrunner streamer, i think its more acceptable, so it depends on the case.

nico @bsky.nicocalu.net · 19/01/2025
but you have to agree that optimal play does exist, and some people are a certain kind of perfectionist regarding videogames.

no hate or anything, but if you have had so many issues with them, why do you still buy the exact same model? did you even try to get the non-functioning ones repaired?
