AI subtitles, everybody. 🤡🤡🤡

Screenshot from a film with AI-generated subtitles. A handwritten note has been left under the wiper blade of a car.

The note: "THANK YOU! [underlined]"

The AI subtitles: "Thank you so much."

Rewatched #RainlessLoveInAGodlessLand. It's so thematically rich, so densely packed w/spiritual & philosophical ponderings that I ended up taking about 10 pgs of notes trying to organize my thoughts. I actually cannot believe #BTS flew all the way from South Korea to do four songs in that atrocious excuse for a "music festival." They gave it everything they had--they always do--but the production was absolutely abysmal from start to finish. The audio was terrible, the staging was lifeless, ugh.

If you have a list of products you don't purchase any more, you might want to watch this video and go ahead and add Driscoll's fruit to it. Side note: I had to go to four different grocers before I could even find a place that sold *anything* other than Driscoll's.

The reason to subscribe to #Viki IS the volunteer-crafted subtitles. They are BY FAR better than any other platform. They offer historical context, explain idiomatic expressions & wordplay, and even translate OST lyrics playing in the background. Switching over to AI is total idiocy. I want to cry.

In Chinese #folklore, The Butterfly Lovers is more than romance. It is a rebellion against fate, gender roles, and social chains. Zhu Yingtai disguises herself as a man to seek education, only to find a kindred soul in Liang Shanbo. Bound by shared ideals yet broken by 1/2

🎨 A stamp of the Butterfly Lovers Subsequently, Liang Shanbo became the magistrate of Muxian County. He fell into melancholy and illness, eventually passing away. Before his death, he requested to be buried in Jiulongxu in Muxian County. When Zhu Yingtai was being taken to her wedding, they passed by Liang Shanbo's grave. Suddenly, a strong wind arose, obstructing the progress of the wedding procession. Zhu Yingtai got off her sedan chair and paid her respects at Liang Shanbo's grave. The grave collapsed, and she threw herself into it. Soon after, a pair of colorful butterflies emerged from the grave and flew away together, leaving the mortal world. 2/2

🎨 《贈別》蕭玉田 During the Eastern Jin Dynasty, in Shangyu County of Kuaiji Commandery, there was a girl named Zhu Yingtai who loved reading poetry and books, longing to pursue studies outside her home. However, women were not allowed to study publicly at that time. She disguised herself as a man and went to the city of Kuaiji in Kuaiji Commandery to study. On her way, she met Liang Shanbo, a scholar from Muxian County of Kuaiji Commandery. They instantly became close friends and traveled together. For three years, Liang and Zhu studied together, but Liang Shanbo never knew that Zhu Yingtai was actually a woman. Later, Zhu Yingtai had to interrupt her studies and return to her hometown. When Liang Shanbo visited Shangyu to propose marriage to Zhu Yingtai, he discovered that his close friend from the past three years was a woman. Unfortunately, by this time, Zhu Yingtai had been promised in marriage to Ma Wencai, the son of the magistrate of Muxian County. 1/2

I find it absolutely chilling every time I hear a supposedly local radio channel reassure me that it's "guaranteed human." And given how automated and standardized stations have become under conglomerates like iHeartMedia, I think there's an argument to be made that it isn't even really accurate.

Rewatching #PerfectCrown and noticing the subtitles are in some cases very different than they were on first watch, just a few weeks ago. I know that the best translation is not 'exact word to exact word' but there were things so glaring even I, a non-Korean speaker, had no trouble noticing. 1/

I am not Korean so I won't judge others' cultural norms. But I have noticed that one of the most common ways to illustrate societal injustice in #kdramas is to have an unreasonable person screaming, "Will YOU take responsibility???" in the face of the (usually blameless) protagonist. #PerfectCrown

Ben_Solo_Good_Boy_Sweater_Emporium @bsgbse.bsky.social · 16/05/2026

Final thoughts on #PerfectCrown: much to love in the series and even finale, but I stand by what I said before. It needed more eps. There were too many major unanswered questions and abolition of the 👑 happened way too fast. A 16 ep structure could've made this show an all-time great. 20? Legendary.
