I would say the wind advisory overnight verified. The 71 mph was up on the dam, at approximately 865ft ASL.

Breezy evening here! Strong winds continue for the next several hours before gradually tapering off.

Got the CRN gauge emptied just in time for tonight’s heavy rainfall so it doesn’t miss recording any of it! We’ve already picked up more rain today than we had in the entire month up to this point!

A little fog action this morning. The main marine layer was moving from right to left, but these lower clouds moved left to right. You can see a darker area on the surface of the water as they track into the bay.

Wow…hope my weather station doesn’t get damaged! And hope peoples’ vehicles and houses do okay. 80 mph and baseball size hail doesn’t happen very often there!

July 7, 2019…a very rare day in Cold Bay, AK where the high temperature reached or exceeded 70F. Since 1950 there have only been 37 days where the temperature reached or exceeded 70F. 4 of those days are from 2019. The all-time record high for Cold Bay is 77F, set in 1960.

What is Alaska’s largest in diameter hailstone record? Looking through the storm events database, I see a couple of mentions of unofficial reports of golf ball sized hail (1.75”), but it looks like maybe the “official” largest is roughly 1.50”? @climatologist49.bsky.social @alaskawx.bsky.social

Is there any way to get the CRN station added to the Annette Airport area thread? It would be nice to have the highs/lows/precipitation records updating again. The thread stops in 2019 when the ASOS was taken out…the CRN is roughly 0.6 miles to the NW of the old ASOS location.

Some of the trees and brush have been cleared from around the WWII structure the Point Davison weather station was mounted on, but there is still a good chunk to go. Back during WWII, the entire area was devoid of trees, so everything in the photos are post war growth.

I measured 2.54” of precipitation for the month of April here at the Annette Island Airport. Typically we would average around 7.18” for the month of April (PANT, 1991 - 2019). The nearby CRN didn’t fair much better, it is up to 2.65”, and it’s average (2012 - 2020) for April is 6.96”

Had a front move through bringing gusty winds and some light snow through the day…on the back end we had around an hour or so of moderate to heavy snow. I picked up 2.2 inches of snow in 50 minutes at home, and a total of 2.6 inches. I had 2.4 inches at the office.

For us here on Annette Island, our record high for the month of March is 65F, for April it is 82F, and for May it is 88F. So this would be the equivalent of us hitting the mid 70s to low 80s…in March.

Some model output from Iowa State’s Meteogram Generator for here on Annette. In short, it’s going to snow Sunday, with gusty winds and warming temperatures that will change the snow over to rain Sunday evening. Pretty sure we won’t be getting 16 inches, but 4 - 6 inches isn’t out of the question.

The community of Cold Bay (year-round population of ~40) has been without power since Wednesday, after a transformer failed. A new one is on the way and it is hoped it will arrive by March 3. Cold Bay hosts one of the Alaska Region’s Upper Air sites.

Got to see a gorgeous sunset last night as I was getting ready to leave the office. This morning was clear and chilly, with temperatures in the low to mid 30s, making for a slick drive out to the ferry terminal to swap out the battery on the Walden Point station for the last time this winter!

WSO Annette Island CWOP station stats for the month of December. Due to snow falling on several days, particularly during the second half of the month, and the precipitation gauge being a tipping bucket gauge, precipitation amounts are not entirely accurate.
