I don't know about earliest, but all I remember of Return to Oz is that she had a chicken and there was a clockwork guy. And then my brain seems to have erased the rest of the film from my memory except a vague sense of fear.

This month I read an RPG (then ran it twice) and re-read some very good comics. 🐭🦊

A stack of books I read in September:

Qualia the Purple by Hisamitsu Ueo and Shirou Tsunashima
Root: The Roleplaying Game by Brendan Conway
Pretty Deadly vol 1-3 by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Emma Rios

Making a thread about one of my D&D characters, because I just remade her with the 2024 rules, so I could play her again. Kari is an aasimar warlock (originally a hexblade, now celestial) who worships the Raven Queen. [Art by Chrissie, DM for the campaign I originally played Kari in]

A portrait of Kari. She has long white hair and completely white eyes. She's wearing a black dress with a high collar, a spiked black tiara, and black lipstick. Pictured on a purple heart background.

Tough to choose, so have 9 manga that have (perhaps unreasonably) burrowed their way into my heart. (And it's pretty much all recent stuff as I didn't start reading manga until a few years ago.) (Witch Hat would be on here, but I didn't want to have two by the same creator, so E&D wins.)

"The 9 manga that shaped who I am" made on 9koma.com

"Eniale & Dewiela" by Kamome Shirahama
"See You Tomorrow at the Food Court" by Shinichiro Nariie
"Qualia the Purple" by Hisamitsu Ueo / Shirou Tsunashima
"Superwomen in Love! Honey Trap and Rapid Rabbit" by sometime
"The Moon on a Rainy Night" by Kuzushiro
"Delicious in Dungeon" by Ryoko Kui
"Dungeon People" by sui hutami
"Crossplay Love: Otaku x Punk" by Toru
"Shy" by Bukimi Miki

That's a very good song suggestion, Deezer. Maybe that's why it's already in the playlist you're suggesting I add it to ...

Another month of just reading a couple of books, but they were both very good and one was technically multiple books in one ...

The two books I read in August:

All-New Wolverine by Tom Taylor (omnibus)
Decomposition Book by Sara Van Os

Delighted that a game developer had to make the decision for what Spider-Man running down a sloped glass roof would look like. And apparently they decided on "gay little jog".

Utena and Anthy stand side by side, their arms intertwine upwards as they hold aloft the sword of Dios together. they stand on a large bed of thorns and roses as they seemingly burst through the bramble. a soft blue beam of light centers around the sword, as the title "Revolutionary Girl Utena" is written in the upper middle of the image. the creators Chiho Saito and Be-Papas are credited in the top right and left corners respectively.

I'd play them the entirety of The Shape of Punk to Come, then ask them for opinions/questions. I'd use those as a way to explore its influences and references, backwards and forwards through time. Of course, what would be more likely is that they'd leave halfway through the first song.
